What is eyelid surgery called?
Blepharoplasty is a procedure to reshape the eyelids
Blepharoplasty is a fancy word to describe an operation that changes the shape of the eyelids. There are different types of “blephs”.
Most are done to reduce the signs of aging and can be done on the upper or lower lids. Another common type of blepharoplasty is a procedure to create a crease in the upper eyelid of an Asian person.
The most common blepharoplasty is done on the upper eyelid for the purpose of reducing the signs of aging. Thinking of it in simple terms, it is basically making two incisions, one over the extra skin and one under the extra skin, removing what is in between and suturing it closed.
I also will address the fat and muscle underneath as necessary. Care needs to be taken not to remove too much tissue or to create a hollow looking eyelid.
It is also important to balance the operation to create a pleasing flow of the eyelid from the inside corner to the outside corner and beyond. Upper blepharoplasty is very popular, produces a very satisfying result, and has a very simple recovery for the vast majority of patients. (Louis W. Apostolakis, MD, Austin Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Also known as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, and gives a rejuvenated appearance to the surrounding area of your eyes, making you look more rested and alert. (Jaime Perez, MD, Tampa Plastic Surgeon)
The eyelid surgery aims to improve and freshen the eyes. The upper eyelid surgery involves the removal excess eyelid skin and a little bit of fat near the nose.
The lower eyelid surgery involves the removal of the fat pockets underneath the eye and a litle bit of skin. Most patients that undergoe eyelid surgery are happy with the results. (Andres Bustillo, MD, FACS, Miami Facial Plastic Surgeon)
What is blepharoplasty(eyelid surgery)
Blepharoplasty is a term used to describe a cosmetic procedure to create a more youthful appearing eyelid. This involves removal of excess skin with minimal fat removal/repositioning.
This can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids depending on the patient’s needs. The surgery is usually performed as an outpatient procedure under either local or general anesthesia.
Not all blepharoplasties are the same and need to be tailored to the patient’s specific anatomic needs. Be sure to review a complete history with your surgeon regarding your eyes (trauma, contact lens use, previous surgery, history of dry eyes, history or watery eyes, etc.) Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon prior to scheduling a blepharoplasty. (William Bruno, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
A Blepharoplasty, otherwise know as eyelid surgery…
An upper Blepharoplasty is a procedure that can correct sagging eyelids by removing excess skin from the upper eyelids. A lower Blepharoplasty removes fatty pouches under the eyes sometimes combined with laser to tighten the skin. Patients can really rejuvenate their appearance nicely with this procedure and it is a relatively easy surgery to go through. Consult your doctor to see if you would be a good candidate for the procedure. (Andrew Miller, MD, Edison Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Blepharoplasty or an eyelid lift improves the cosmetic appearance of the eye.
In the upper eyelid, extra skin muscle and fat can be removed. leaving a fine scar that is visible only when the eye is closed. In the lower eyelid, fat usually removed with an incision behind the eyelid, therefore there is no visible scar. Wrinkles of the lower eyelid is best treated with laser, laser resurfacing to smooth and shrink the skin. (David A. F. Ellis, MD, Toronto Facial Plastic Surgeon)
