RealSelf Q&A with Dr. Anil Shah
RS: What sets your practice apart?
AS: My practice is unique because I focus on using the latest technologies and techniques, such as 3D imaging, newer techniques for rhinoplasty that avoid hammers, and robotics that help improve overall results. A deep understanding of anatomy resonates within my practice to help with outcomes and keep my patients safe.
RS: What inspired you to become a surgeon?
AS: My father, a GI doctor, provided the ultimate influence. He helped countless patients, and it was not just a job but a true calling for him. Seeing the dedication in his craft and going the extra mile with his patients helped me want to do the same.
RS: How did you decide to specialize in facial plastic surgery?
AS: I’ve always been fascinated by the face. Early on, I worked on facial sculptures. I really enjoyed the face’s complexity and how subtle changes would influence the overall appearance of the face. Even before medical school, I knew that this was what I was meant to do.
RS: What’s your practice like?
AS: My practice in Chicago focuses on improving the form and function of the face. I use surgical and nonsurgical approaches to help give patients improved confidence in their appearance, and hopefully more success in life.
Whenever possible, I perform surgery in our office surgical suite, to help keep the patient experience intimate.
RS: What’s a consultation with you like?
AS: A consultation with a new patient typically involves a collaboration of ideas. I use 3D imaging to convey potential outcomes and allow patients to preview what they may look like. Educating patients on what to expect is a big part of this step.
RS: How would you describe your approach to plastic surgery?
AS: My approach is to individualize plastic surgery for every person based on their goals. I love giving recommendations and seeing if my vision matches a potential patient’s desires, especially when our goals are aligned.
