The price for laser blepharoplasty varies from 3000 to 5000 US dollars. Laser Blepharoplasty is a confusing term because it does not describe what is being done with the laser. Similarly, what is traditional Blepharoplasty? I would guess that is cutting the eyelid through a skin incision
In any case, from your photos I don’t believe you need a skin incision. I would think a transconjunctival blepharoplasty would suffice. If you have eyelid skin crepiness that you want to address, laser resurfacing would be a good option
Lower blepharoplasty with lasers
I think the confusion is bases on how your surgeon plans on making incisions(using a laser or not). There are some differences in terms of length of edema, etc with lasers. The real question based on your photo is whether you need a lower blepharoplasty at all. If you have “puffiness” then blepharoplasty is appropriate. If,though, you have hollowness, then placing a filler, like, restylane is more appropriate.
My advise is to go to the surgeon who suggested doing an incision under the eyelid. There is no difference in the technique. One surgeon is going to make his skin incision with a knife and the other is going to make his incision with a laser. The way I see it . One is going to cut you and the other is going to burn you. Take your pick. I feel that the burn (laser) is going to cause more tissue damage to the skin edges
The advertisement of the laser is a promotional gimmic. It will cost you more and give the same result or possibly less.
Remember a laser costs $ 125,000 vs. knife blade for 50 cents. l The real advantages of a laser in surgery is decreased bleeding
Various techniques for lower eyelid surgery
Lower eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty) is one of the more difficult operations. I have seen the various techniques achieve similar results. Therefore, as long as your surgeon has made the correct evaluation of your problems and provides the proper operation to correct these problems, you should get a good result
Selecting your surgeon is important; your surgeon should be have a conservative and effective technique for treating the lower eyelid. The general trend in lower blepharoplasty is toward conservation of the lower eyelid skin, preservation of lower orbital fat, avoiding tension on the lower lid, performing a canthopexy or canthoplasty and filling the tear-trough depression
The word “laser” can be confusing in this context as a laser can be used as a cutting instrument or as a resurfacing tool.
If you have excess lower eyelid skin, it can be removed using the outside incision or resurfaced using a laser. Unfortunately based on the picture you have provided it is difficult to determine which procedure would best suite your needs
Both approaches can provide good results. The more important step is to find a surgeon that you trust and understands your objectives. Consult with 3 experienced and expert board certified plastic surgeons to understand your options
The issue should be transconjunctival vs transcutaneous blepharoplasty
The question is not whether laser is best option. The real question is, should you undergo a transconjunctival blepharoplasty (through the inner aspect of the lower eyelid) or a transcutaneous technique (through the skin)? A transconjuntival technique is a fine option if you only desire to remove or redrape some fat with or without laser resurfacing of the skin
The trancutaneous technique will allow you to address the fat, muscle, and overlying skin all at once. Most patients in their 40’s or older will benefit from a transcutaneous approach to better address the signs of aging
Anesthesia options
I perform upper lid surgery under local but lower and four kid blephs under IV sedation. I do not think you need general for this type of procedure but every surgeon has his or her own preference. (Robert L. Kraft, MD, FACS, New York Plastic Surgeon)
There are 3 different types of anesthesia that can be used for blepharoplasty.1. Local anesthesia only.2. Conscious sedation which is twilight sleep.3. General anesthesia which involved being completely out with a breathing tube. The choice anesthesia depends on the surgeon’s preference.
However the patient should discuss their concerns and apprehensions about different kinds of anesthesia with the surgeon to decide which anesthesia would suit that patient. Laser resurfacing can be done only with the topical anesthesia creams. (Tanveer Janjua, MD, Bedminster Facial Plastic Surgeon)
I already had a consultation about blepharoplasty and laser resurfacing, which anesthesia is used for this procedure?
I use general anesthesia for a combined blepharoplasty and laser resurfacing. However many doctors do this with local and IV sedation. This decision will be made in consultation with your surgeon. (Brooke R. Seckel, MD, FACS, Boston Plastic Surgeon)
The choice of anesthesia in your case should have been discussed at the time of your consultation. If you’re unclear about it,it might be good to call the doctor’s office to be sure. In our practice we can offer this combination of procedures with either local anesthesia in the office for patients who aren’t anxious, or with sedation IV anesthesia for those who prefer to lightly sleep and be totally unaware of the treatment. (Reza Momeni, MD FACS, Summit Plastic Surgeon)
The choice of anesthesia is determined by your general health, your surgeon’s preference, your preference, and the anesthesiologist. It is best to have this conversation with your surgeon so that you both feel comfortable. (Anthony Bared, MD, FACS, Miami Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Anesthesia for blepharoplasty and laser resurfacing
The choice of anesthesia for a surgical procedure is based on the preference of the surgeon, patient, and potentially the anesthesiologist. Sometimes, the health of the patient can influence the choice of anesthesia as well.
My preference for anesthesia for blepharoplasty and laser resurfacing would also depend on the type of laser used and whether the entire face or only the eye area is being treated. If only the eye area was being treated, I would say that the blepharoplasty and laser procedure could be done with local anesthesia with IV sedation.
If the entire face was being treated with the laser, then sometimes a general anesthesia might be more appropriate, but it could be possible to have it done with local anesthesia and IV sedation as well. I would discuss your anesthesia options with your surgeon.(Michael I. Echavez, MD, San Francisco Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Laser Blepharoplasty Cost
The cost of laser blepharopalsty is typically higher than that of traditional blepharoplasty and can be between $3,000 and $5,000. Laser lepharoplasty and scalpel blepharoplasty are very similar in nature, and typically cost the same amount.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Depending on what’s causing the dark circles will depend on the treatment. In our practice to correct the under eye area it can range from $1100 for filler to $3500 for a laser blepharoplasty in Virginia Beach. I would have consultations with 2-3 board certified plastic surgeon’s to get their recommendations. (Ben Hugo, MD, Virginia Beach Plastic Surgeon)
Lower eyelid surgery cost.
The surgery that you need is a laser blepharoplasty. This is done thru the inside of the lower lid. Therefore there is no scar seen. The cost is about $4000 in Beverly Hills. (Toby Mayer, MD, Beverly Hills Facial Plastic Surgeon)
You should probably try filler first, just my opinion. It is straightforward, no downtime or scars, and your youthful skin is taut so will nicely redistribute over the product improving your contour with a natural result instantly.
This costs $700, lasts at least a year. True, the surgery is permanent, and although rare, complications of the surgery may be permanent also. We’re in Encinitas and including surgery center, anesthesia, and office revisions if necessary, it would cost about $6500.
My approach would not be transconjunctival, I do more to beautify the eyes. Quality sometimes costs a bit more. (Steve Laverson, MD, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)
You may get wide price variation from different doctors. You need to base your choice on whom you feel comfortable with and their before and after results. For lower lids: I prefer to reposition the fat to maintain lower lid volume and help to decrease the appearance of wrinkles.
Maintaining volume with fat repositioning or addition of fat or filler can help. Laser resurfacing will also help fine lines and wrinkles. (John J. Martin, Jr., MD, Coral Gables Oculoplastic Surgeon)
3 consults with 3 board certified plastic surgeons giving 3 very different approaches and prices for upper and lower bleph?
. Eyelid surgery is a very delicate procedure and takes experience for consistent outcomes. This is a procedure that I feel that in most cases “less is more”. Meaning keeping the procedure simple gets the best results.
It is difficult to say what would be best for you without examining you. I like to be able to examine you closely, feel the tone in the eyelids and to assess the problem in different views.
During the procedure the skin of the lower eyelids is re-draped so that the excess skin is removed and many of the fine lines are corrected. My best advice is to have a second consult with the 2 surgeons you liked and possibly see another couple of surgeons for more information.
You should feel comfortable with the surgical plan and feel a connection with your surgeon. Do not rush into surgery until you feel comfortable..
I don’t like fat repositioning or removal. Make sure you are seeing specialists who do “only faces” and have been doing so for many years. Make sure you actually need an upper lid blepharoplasty and not a brow lift.
Malar lift is seldom necessary with blepharoplasty unless there is significant droopiness of the lower lids as a result of scarring from a previous surgery. What can be achieved with a malar lift in relation to the lower lids can easily be accomplished with fat injection.
Those of us who specialize in the plastic surgery of the face and the eyelids remove a small amount of the protruding fat pads and inject small amount of fat at the junction of the cheeks and the lower eyelids which accomplishes several goals.
It avoids hollowness from removal of the fat. Second, it creates youthful and graceful transition from the cheek to the eyelid by eliminating the groove between the cheek and the eyelid. Third, fat contains stem cell and engenders the natural youthful glow to the eyelid that can be achieved by surgery alone.
Furthermore, if there is darkish discoloration under the eyes, it will partially be improved with fat injection but if it is sever it can be erased with laser which will also improve the wrinkles.
Finally, if the skin is very redundant it can be removed through an incision under the eyelashes. Blepharoplasty, is second to the rhinoplasty in demand for precision in plastic surgery field and it is very unforgiven.
Beyond board certification you need to look into the expertise of the plastic surgeon, how often he/she does this procedure, look at the results in the website and ask whether if the surgeon teaches the other plastic surgeons this operation.
