SMAS imbrication vs SMAS plication
SMAS
Sep 22, 2014
There are many derivations of the use/treatment of the SMAS during a facelift. SMAS elevation with mobilization, imbrication or plication. All of these approaches have their place in facelifts, both in first time patients and secondaries. There are a number of factors which will allow choosing one approach over another including, overlying skin quality, soft tissue fullness/deficiency, primary or secondary cases with/without prior SMAS lift, SMAS mobility etc. Each…
Does an SMAS full facelift address forehead and under eye bags?
SMAS lift
Sep 22, 2014
SMAS facelift will not address either brow or lower eyelid issues. Be sure to address each of these issues independently to your surgeon so that your expectations are realistically met.
Is it safe to use light IV sedation for a 3 1/2 hour procedure? SMAS Lift, Temporal Brow Lift an
LIVS
Sep 22, 2014
LIVS, or local with IV sedation is an extremely common method of performing these type of cases and, when performed by a qualified CRNA or Anesthetist, is very safe. We use this type of anesthesia routinely in our office and is preferred over General Anesthesia for a number of cases
Will shaving before Laser hair removal result in coarse hair?
Shaving before laser treatments
May 26, 2009
Lasers used for hair removal rely on a beam of high intesity light (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) focused to a specific wavelength (pigment) and target. Important to note that hair grows in cycles or phases (anagen, telogen and catagen) or "growing", dorment, or transitional. Hair in different parts of the body grow at different rates, and also go through growth phases/dormency at different rates.
Lasers are only effective if the hair is in the active…
Can I get breast implants while on Accutane?
Accutane
May 26, 2009
Patients on ACCUTANE considering either surgical procedures or topical skin treatments including laser or chemical peels are at higher risk of scarring than patients not on ACCUTANE.
It is recommended to be off ACCUTANE for a MINIMUM of 6 months before undergoing these treatments/surgery–1 year off would reduce risks further.
I hope this helps.
How much does Juvederm cost?
Juvederm cost
May 26, 2009
The pricing of Juvederm is by the syringe. What you don’t use at the first injection is stored for you until your next injection (up to 6 months).
In our area, the cost per syringe to patients is between $450-$700 depending on rebates by Allergan or specials by physician’s offices.
What is the recovery time for chemical peels?
Chemical Peel Recovery times
May 26, 2009
Chemical peels are great for the right patient. Not all patients are candidates due to the risk of post op hyperpigmentation, scarring or ochrinosis. TCA (trichlorocetic acid) is a great product for treating blotchy hyperpigmentation of the skin or sun damage without the downsides of phenol (hypopigmentation and cardiac arrythmias). But remember, chemical peels (aside from deep phenol peels) do not treat wrinkles–just discoloration and complexion issues.
Having said all that as a…
