Recurring Hematoma 2 Weeks After Tummy Tuck
Recurrent fluid build up after tummy tuck- what is “normal”?
Jun 2, 2011
Jun 2, 2011
Recurrent fluid build up after tummy tuck is usually "serous or serosanguineous" In other words, the fluid is composed of blood serum and a certain amount of whole blood. This problem is typical of older (less expensive) techniques of tummy tuck surgery where the surgeon does not close the wounds on the inside (using quilting sutures that close the pocket so that there is no space for the fluid to accumulate).
Only a small amount of blood is necessary…
What Tests Should I Get Before Mommy Makeover Surgery?
Tests needed before MAJOR SURGERY…

I operate out of my own private surgical facility. One of my goals is to have a zero complication rate. I strive for continual quality improvement, frequently reviewing our case statistics and outcomes.
There has been a relatively recent movement to reduce the amount of preop workup done on healthy patients prior to elective surgery. However, we have found in our clinical reviews that healthy patients often have associated medical abnormalities that were not…
Is This a Typical Tummy Tuck Scar?
Scars from Tummy Tucks- Shape Trumps Scar!
Apr 29, 2011
Apr 29, 2011
Scars from tummy tucks generally fall in the crease that forms in the lower abdomen when seated in a chair. The length of the scar, not surprisingly, is directly related to how much skin is to be removed. The more skin to be removed, the longer the scar. Attempts to really shorten the scar end up causing problems of pleating, irregularity, and "dog ears" (cone shaped prominence at the end of the scar). In most cases, the best results are obtained from using…
Endoscopic Tummy Tuck
Endoscopic Tummy Tucks?? NO!-except for the very rare patient that does not have any extra skin….
Mar 21, 2011
Mar 21, 2011
Endoscopic surgery is a real advance in many areas of plastic surgery. However, when there is extra skin and fat to be removed, as in a typical tummy tuck, then endoscopy has NO role to play. There are almost no cases in my over 25 year experience that would have benefitted from this type of operation. I have seen perhaps one patient who only had muscle weakness following delivery, who did not have any extra skin to get rid of.
So called "Heat therapy"…
Drain Removed, Now Collecting Fluid. Normal?
Avoid Drains Altogether after a Tummy Tuck- How? Read on…
Mar 21, 2011
Mar 21, 2011
Sorry to hear about your problem. Most surgeons in North America use drainage tubes after a tummy tuck to remove fluid that tends to accumulate under the tummy skin flap. A good way of avoiding drains, and avoiding the hassle of "seromas" (the fluid even has its own name!) is to see a surgeon who is trained to close the wound on the inside. Yes, it takes time to do this, and it may cost you a bit more, but you won't have to put up with the swelling,…

Really distorted breasts with big submuscular saline implants- Was it Predictable? ( or not?)
Feb 9, 2011
Feb 9, 2011
First, sorry to those women who got what they asked for instead of what would work best for their body shape and size.
Remember, breast augmentation is NOT an easy operation. You have to be FITTED for a breast implant that will work properly for your actual breast/chest size and shape. You CAN'T have any size you want, you can ONLY HAVE A SIZE THAT FITS YOU (sorry for shouting there). There is a range of devices that will properly fit a given…
Have I Done Damage to Sutures? Popped stitches
Sudden pain in the tummy 2 weeks after a tummy tuck?
Feb 9, 2011
Feb 9, 2011
Sutures are used to tighen the muscles of the abdomen, as well as to close the layers of the deep tissues in the abdomen. If you feel a sudden pop and some discomfort, but no bruising and only mild tenderness in the area, it is unlikely that any major damage has occurred. However, it is a good idea to see your surgeon for a checkup after one of these episodes. Remember that it is a bad idea to do heavy lifting after a full tummy tuck with a muscle repair until after…
