How to remove these pimples from my face?
Difficult acne
Apr 26, 2016
Apr 26, 2016
There are 3 categories of over the counter acne treatments you could use. First are the acids, either alpha- or beta-hydroxy, which help exfoliate and remove dead skin cells and excess oil from the skin. Salicyclic acid, a beta-hydroxy acid, tends to get deeper penetration into the pores and therefore is used most often in acne treatments. Second, benzoyl peroxide in either cleansers, lotions, or gels, can both exfoliate and decrease the amount of bacteria on the skin. Finally, topical …
What would you Recommend I do for my acne / skin problem. What is my skin problem?
Cystic acne not responding to at-home remedies
Apr 25, 2016
Apr 25, 2016
Visit a local dermatologist ASAP. The acne you are experiencing is cystic and scarring, and needs to be treated aggressively by an acne expert. While accutane (isotretinoin) is certainly an option, you may also respond to oral antibiotics with spironolactone, which offer fewer side effects. However, a detailed medical history needs to be performed along with an examination to determine your treatment options.
It was painful! Should I continue with further treatments?
Pain with Vanquish treatment
Apr 25, 2016
Apr 25, 2016
Mild discomfort due to heat delivery to the fat layer is expected with the Vanquish treatment but should never reach the level of true pain. I have noted that “hot spots” are common over bony prominences, such as the hip bones, and that the paddle often needs to be adjusted upwards, or outwards, to alleviate this. My suggestions are to 1) Ensure your hydration level is optimized by not only increasing water intake but also severely limiting caffeine and alcohol, both of which are d…
Do you think it will be less effective if I schedule my follow up Vanquish appointments every 14 days inst
Vanquish treatment schedule
Apr 19, 2016
Apr 19, 2016
This is a great question and one that I get asked frequently. You have to realize that all the studies performed on the Vanquish were with the twice a week schedule, and none have been done with a longer separation, to my knowledge. Therefore the answers you will get to this are based solely on personal experience, which can be biased and/or limited. So, with that caveat in mind, my answer is that I don’t think that time between treatment actually matters that much. I think treatment ti…
Vanquish – Optimal settings
Optimal Vanquish Settings
Apr 18, 2016
Apr 18, 2016
The key is getting tuning >95% with whatever power setting is being used, and this varies per the individual patient. Having tender areas after the procedure is considered a good sign, as these areas are slightly inflamed and should show good results. You need to tell the technician or physician running the Vanquish if you feel hot spots during the treatment, as the power should then be lowered or the panel readjusted. Don’t forget, hydration is the key to a successful treatment, as th…
Can aldactone and birth control pill be taken together?
Birth Control taken with Aldactone
Mar 29, 2016
Mar 29, 2016
In general the two are safe when taken together. In fact, because aldactone can cause birth defects, I think it is safer to take aldactone when on a birth control pill.
