Am I good candidate for upper eyelid surgery?
Ptosis surgery and blepharoplasty
Jan 4, 2023
Based on your photos, it appears you have mild eyelid ptosis (droopy eyelid muscle) worse on the right side with some extra eyelid skin on both upper lids. Your brows are likely symmetric at rest, however when one eyelid is more droopy than the other, that eyebrow muscle lifts to compensate for the droopy eyelid. This is likely why your right eyebrow looks higher in photo 1.
The most common reason for ptosis in a young adult is contact lens use, though there are several other reasons. It is...
Droopy eyelid - is eyelid surgery the only way to fix it?
Ptosis surgery
Jan 4, 2023
You have 2 options: Ptosis surgery or ptosis eye drops.Ptosis surgery is an extremely effective procedure with long-term results. You are a good candidate for surgery. There are several ways to perform ptosis surgery. Due to the mild nature of your ptosis, I recommend internal ptosis surgery (no visible incision). It is important to see a surgeon who specializes in eyes, typically an oculofacial plastic surgeon (aka oculoplastic surgeon), to ensure you have the most natural and safe results....
Lower Bleph with Fat Removal vs. Repositioning - which would be more effective?
Fat repositioning
Jan 4, 2023
There are many options for eyelid surgery. I recommend you select a surgeon who specializes in eyes to ensure you have the most natural and safe results. Based off your photos, you have mild fat herniation (also called lower lid bags) with a dark circle (also called tear troughs) underneath the bag, and a little mid face volume deflation. You are a good candidate for a transconjunctival (no visible incision) lower lid blepharoplasty with fat transposition. The incision is made behind the...
Would a lower blepharoplasty target under eye circles and discoloration? 24 y/o
Surgery is an option
Jan 4, 2023
Thank you for the photos. The dark circles you notice are mostly due to the bags under your eyes causing shadowing, resulting in the dark circle appearance. The bags are due to fat herniating forward. A transconjunctival (no visible incision) lower lid blepharoplasty with fat transposition can reposition the fat into the dark circle to smooth out your eyelid-cheek junction. I recommend this over fat removal since your eye is slightly more prominent than your cheek (we call this a negative...
Mullerectomy for Proptosis Overcorrection - what can you on advise on the next steps? (Ph
You have options
Jan 4, 2023
Thank you for the photos, very helpful. Your photos show significant swelling which is common 10 days after mullerectomy. It is too soon to determine your final lid position at this time. If your surgeon was happy with your lid position on the day of your surgery then there is a very high likelihood that your eyelid position will improve as swelling resolves and fibrosis (scar tissue that is not visible under the eyelid) sets in. Patients with thyroid eye disease often have a lot of fibrosis...
What could be the problem with my asymmetrical eyes/sunken left eye?
Complete eye evaluation
Aug 8, 2021
Thanks for the photos. I agree the left eye appears relatively more “enophthalmic” (sunken) then your right eye. I recommend a full eye exam by an oculoplastic surgeon to evaluate your eyes and work up why you have this asymmetry. It could be that your left eye appears more sunken due to: a difference in your eye size or refractive error, a condition called silent sinus syndrome, or old history of trauma or fracture. However it is also possible that your other eye is “exophthalmic” (bulgin...
Is this dermatochalasis? My vision is impaired. Could an upper blepharoplasty help?
Ptosis repair
Aug 4, 2021
Great question. Based on your photos it looks like you have upper eyelid ptosis. This is when the eyelid muscle that is suppose to lift and open the eyelid is weak or stretched which causes the eyelid to droop. This can be easily corrected by an internal ptosis repair surgery which strengthens and shortens the stretched muscle. This surgery takes 15 minutes, is very reliable and there are no visible incisions. It is less likely that your feeling of eyelid heaviness is due to extra skin as...
Would lower blepharoplasty fix muscle?
Botox is another option
Aug 4, 2021
Thank you for your question. The fullness you see under your eyes when smiling is due to your orbicularis oculi muscle. This muscle is very important to help us properly close our eyes, it also helps our eyelid oils glands properly function. It is common for it to become more prominent with smiling- we call it a hypertrophic orbicularis muscle. I have the same problem when I smile:)A lower lid blepharoplasty can improve this problem, however this would require a skin incision and removal of...
I'm 21 years old, and my eyes seem severely unsymmetrical. Ptosis or Hypertropia?
Ptosis and eye exam
Aug 4, 2021
Thank you foe the question. It looks like you have left upper lid ptosis. The light reflexes in the center of your pupils are symmetric which tells us your eyes are in the same plane (therefore not hypertropic). Additionally, if you had new hypertropia you would also experience double vision, which you haven’t mentioned. I recommend an evaluation with an ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgeon. You also appear to have left inferior Scleral show, which means the white part under your c...
Will an upper and lower eye surgery help me look more awake and improve the appearance of my ey
Consider ptosis surgery
Aug 8, 2020
Thank you for the photos, based on these it looks like you have mild droopy eyelids- we call this eyelid ptosis. The left upper eyelid is slightly lower than the right upper eyelid. This is causing you to lift your left eyebrow to compensate for the droopy left upper lid (this is a reflex that you may not realize you are doing), this results in additional mild eyelid crease asymmetry. I recommend you see an oculofacial plastic surgeon for an eye and eyelid examination. They may place...
Can I get eyelid surgery with pre existing lagophthalmos?
Recommend an oculofacial plastic surgeon
Aug 8, 2020
Thank you for the question. I recommend you have your eyes examined by an oculofacial plastic surgeon. Lagophthalmos can result in dry eye or in more severe situations it can lead to scarring of the cornea. When we are young our eyes can tolerate a very small amount of lagophthalmos but as we get older our eyes lose the ability to compensate for the incomplete eye closure and our eyes can get very dry. An oculofacial plastic surgeon is an eye surgeon who also completed additional fellowship...
Would I be a candidate for upper eyelid surgery? My eyelids have always been very droopy and la
Yes, blepharoplasty is a great option
Aug 8, 2020
Gorgeous photos. You have beautiful eyes!I agree that you are starting to develop excess skin of the upper lids that are giving you the heavy and droopy feeling. Fortunately, this can be treated with an upper eyelid blepharoplasty. This procedure can be done in the clinic/procedure room and requires minimal downtime. The incision would be hidden in your eyelid crease, so no visible incision. Blepharoplasty is an extremely common procedure that works great to make the eyes look and fee more...
What is wrong with my eye or eyelid? How can this be treated?
Ptosis repair
Aug 8, 2020
Thank you for the question. After reviewing your photo, it appears you have ptosis of the left upper lid. If you have had this problem since growing up you may have been born with ptosis, which is called congenital ptosis. I recommend ptosis repair of the left upper lid, and maybe even both upper lids depending on your exam. Ptosis repair would open the eyes, improve the eyelid asymmetry and improve your vision. You should see an Oculofacial plastic surgeon for a full eyelid evaluation....
What surgery could be done to have my eyes look equal and my eyebrows look equal?
Ptosis repair is the answer
Aug 8, 2020
Thank you for the question. On evaluation of your photos, it looks like your right upper lid is slightly more droopy than the left upper lid. This is causing the right brow to lift as a reflex to compensate for the droopy right upper lid so the lid doesn’t block your vision.
If you were to relax your right brow, you would likely see that the right upper lid would be lower than in the photo.
An internal ptosis repair is a 10 minute in office procedure that can strengthen a weak or s...
Graves’ disease and should I have orbital decompression?
Orbital decompression is a great option
Aug 8, 2020
Excellent question. You are very correct in wondering if an orbital decompression is the answer for your eye and eyelid issues. The answer is yes. 50% of patients with Graves’ disease develop thyroid eye disease (TED). One of the most common manifestations of this disease is proptosis (eyes that protrude or bulge forward). It is important to be evaluated by an oculoplastic surgeon as there are many other manifestations of the disease- including dry eye, pain, swelling, double vision, i...
