Doctors
Dr. Persons was inspired to pursue her specialty in plastic surgery after seeing its transformative powers firsthand: at the age of 25, she survived a near-fatal automobile accident that required her to undergo more than 18 reconstructive surgical procedures. This experience continues to motivate her to advocate for and serve the Bay Area community.
After graduating with her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and cell biology from University of California, San Diego, Dr. Persons earned her medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. She then completed an internship at the University of California, Davis, a residency in general surgery at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a residency in plastic surgery with specializations in breast, aesthetic, and laser surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she was chief resident.
To round out her advanced training in plastic surgery, Dr. Persons completed three distinct fellowships in adult craniofacial surgery, aesthetic breast surgery, and microsurgery.
Dr. Persons spent two years on the Navajo Indian reservation in northern Arizona at the Inscription House Health Center as part of her service in the United States Public Health Service Corps. Today, she serves her local community by accepting coverage from most health insurance providers. She often steps in to assist with plastic surgery emergencies at Bay Area hospitals.
Dr. Persons lectures on plastic surgery topics at conferences both domestically and internationally. In addition to participating in research trials for cutting-edge advancements in the field of plastic surgery, she writes book chapters and journal articles, and volunteers on the clinical faculty at University of California, Davis. Board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, she is a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
In her over 30 years of practice, Dr. Persons has received many honors, including the American Medical Association’s Physician Recognition Award and the Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award.
