I tend to be very cautious treating women who have recently delivered a baby or that are breastfeeding. Anything that can cause hyper pigmentation such as laser treatments have a higher potential of leaving permanent discoloration. Swelling gets worse after injection with a hyaluronic based filler due to its attraction to water molecules. I would be concerned if the lips were excessively hot or had blanched spots. If you wait a few days it will go down. If you are worried you should contact your doctor. Ice can sometimes help with the swelling. Good luck! Lips are a fun area to inject since you most always have good results!

In my experience there is no set recipe for how much neuromuscular inhibitor like Botox each patient will need. The amount of Botox needed is not even just dependent on a patient's age. One patient's anatomy may require more than another's. Some patients want to be completely wrinkle-free; some patients still want to retain much of their muscle-movement and "expression-lines." This swelling usually does not last more than 24-48 hours. Bruising can last a week or more and can be significant under the eyes at times. If there is ever redness, severe pain or heat, you should let your injector know immediately. Usually the symptoms helped with ice/tylenol. Makeup can cover discoloration. A little downtime and the results are less shadows/ tear troughs and so worth it! Most of my patients love the results.
