Had Laser Hair Removal 2 While 2 Weeks Pregnant?
Laser treatments and pregnancy
Jun 8, 2013
It’s true that it’s not recommended to have any laser procedures and particularly numbing medications applied to the skin when pregnant, but here are two points to consider. At two weeks pregnant, the embryo is just implanting into the uterine wall. Also laser light penetrates only a short distance into the skin and would not reach the baby. I would talk to your OB/GYN but the chances that your baby was harmed in any way are extremely small.

I recommend not having any more laser…

Can a Photofacial Cause Dark Spots?
Photofacials and hyperpigmentation
Jun 8, 2013
Photofacials are IPL (intense pulsed light) treatments that usually address the redness and brown spots on the skin. Hyperpigmentation after a photofacial can occur if the skin is burned. It can also happen if there is sun exposure soon after the photofacial. Sun must be avoided for at least 2 months after a photofacial and strict sun protection must be used.

Also, if there is a deeper component of melasma, it may actually darken with a photofacial. The superficial type of melasma…

Too Much?
Swelling after Juvederm in lips
Apr 11, 2013
There can be quite a bit of swelling after injection of hyaluronic acid fillers into the lips for 3-4 days. Once the swelling is reduced, then you should be able to see what your lips will look like for the next 9-12 months.

If I am working just with the lips, I start with one syringe, particularly accenting the “pillows” of the lips, the lip line and the philtrum. For most of my patients that is enough to improve the appearance of the lips. If needed, we can always add…

Am I Being Ripped off with Botox and Juvederm?
How much Botox and filler to use?
Apr 11, 2013
Let’s address the filler question first. If the intent is to put 4 cc of filler into lips, that is excessive and will look unnatural. The goal of any cosmetic procedure is to look natural. There is never any need for 4 cc of filler into lips.

As far as Botox is concerned, how much to use does depend on the size and strength of the muscles that are being injected. However, if you have not had any Botox injections previously, better to start with less. More…

Is There a Laser Treatment I Need for This Or Will Redness Go Away?
Redness of scar after mole excision
Mar 24, 2013
Redness does usually fade after a number of weeks after excision is performed. In areas of tension or motion, like the upper lip, that process takes a little longer. As long as the area remains flat and non tender, you may want to choose to give it time to heal completely on its own. It takes up to one year for the scar to reach its final stage of healing. Treating the spot with a vascular laser will improve the redness sooner. The scar itself may become less…
What is the Correct Way to Inject Botox for Jaw/masseter Contouring?
Botox for masseter injection for jaw contouring
Mar 24, 2013
Botox needs to be injected into the muscle in order to exert its action. So the masseter injections have to be deep enough to reach the muscle.

It takes time to see the results of masseter injections in slimming down jawline contours, sometimes several months. Some patients with large masseter muscles may need repeated injections during those several months. Schedules vary. So it would be too soon to look for results of Botox injections of masseter muscles at two weeks…

Where Can I Get HQ 8%?
hydroquinone and hyperpigmentation
Mar 24, 2013
The highest percentage of hydroquinone (HQ) in topical medications that are produced in the US is 4%. To get a higher percentage, your doctor would need to have the medication made by a compounding pharmacy. Care must be taken with higher percentage HQ creams, as there are numerous reports of paradoxical hyperpigmentation, called exogenous ochronosis, that can occur with prolonged use of higher percentage HQ creams. Please have your treatment monitored by a board certified…
