Doing Surgery on Yourself
Aug 14, 2019
There are many products available to consurmers and that can be purchased on the internet which claim to remove moles and other facial growths.  And I get it.  Going to a doctor is expensive, there are often long waits, and if you have insurance, that can be a big hassle too.But many of us in dermatology and the facial aesthetic field have seen bad scars from these products, and your photos are a perfect example.  Just like when you skin your knees, a scab develops with the top layer of th...
Can you have lower eye bags removed even if you're told you have thin skin?
How to help you look better
Jul 12, 2019
Many people have dark circles under their eyes.  This makes the person look tired and sad.  In past years the only solution was a surgery called blepharoplasty.  These days many if not most patients prefer to have the dark circles treated with filler products.  The use of fillers in this area is not approved by the FDA for any product, however, it is very commonly done by many physicians in the country.  I am sure you could find someone who is a recognized expert where you live.I wish you w...
Can i treat my asymmetrical face without surgery?
Facial Asymmetry
Oct 22, 2018
The majority of people are born with a facial asymmetry, with one side bigger than the other.  It is very important that the treating physician look for, and recognize this asymmetry before considering any treatment.  Most are very subtle, and can be easily correctly to near perfect with fillers placed in key areas.  In fact, I believe this is one of the top elements to facial beauty, and if you look at photos of "beautiful people" you will see that their symmetry is near perfect.Of co...

Bruising After Lip Filler
Jun 25, 2018
While we always try to avoid bruising when it comes to facial fillers, the fact is that it is guaranteed to happen in a fairly high percentage of patients.  There are techniques the physician can do to avoid bruising, most notably the use of CANNULAS instead of needles.  There are also steps the patient can take to minimize the chances of developing bruises, such as avoiding Aspirin, Non-Steroidal Medications (Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Naprosyn, Motrin, etc) for at least two weeks before a t...
Is my left eye bag going to go away (5 months post lower blepharoplasty)?
Concerns after Lower Blepharoplasty
Jun 25, 2018
Most patients have a stable surgical result by about 3-4 months, and what you see at that point is very predictive of the final appearance.  Your photograph suggests a relatively prominent eye, and these are the most challenging patients when it comes to lower eyelid surgery.  We would have to see how the lids look when you look up and to the side, and check to see whether there is any tethering of the lid after surgery.  However it appears that you have more of an issue that just excess fa...
Can Botox help with a droopy eye?
Botox and Dysport can open your eyes
Jun 25, 2018
Neuromodulators such as Botox/Dysport/Xeomin can be a very effective tool to open a person's eyes.  They work by weakening muscles.  So any muscle that closes the eyes can be weakened, and thus make the eyes more open.  The main muscle that closes the eyes is called the Orbicularis.  Neuromodulators can be placed in key locations of this muscle to open the eyes.  This has to be done very carefully so as to keep it from spreading to adjacent muscles.  Also if too much is injected, you will n...
Will Botox improve symmetry on my face?
Treating Facial Asymmetry with Neuromodulators (ie, BOTOX) and/or Fillers
Jun 21, 2018
Most people have some facial asymmetry.  It is important to recognize this fact, and take it into account when evaluating a patient, such that the appropriate products and volumes can be administered to maximize facial symmetry.  The more symmetric and properly proportioned a face, the more attractive the person. This may be acheived with neuromodulators like Botox alone, or in combination with filler agents.  Botox can be used to treat a prominent masseter muscle (the muscle that pr...
Is it swelling or filler causing this?
That Pesky Fold in the Corner of the Lip
Jun 21, 2018
Many people have a fold in the outer corner of their upper lip, and sometimes it gets more noticeable after a lip filler treatment.  If you are bothered by such a fold, it can be easily corrected by placing a little filler there in addition to the filler in the red part of the lip.  I do this routinely to give a nice shape to the lip.
Fat grafting or HA fillers after permenant filler removal?
Help Bumpy Appearance after Removing Permanent Filler
Jun 21, 2018
Hi-I am sorry to hear about the problems you've had after fillers under the eye area.  You are not alone in patients who have had problems like this, and you were lucky to find a doctor who could remove the product. Before deciding how to make the area look better, I would recommend you make sure as much of the nodules have been removed as is possible.  The body can continue to react to the product, and these nodules can grow.  Once that has been done, one has to assess the degree of soft ti...
Best way to remove a small scar from surgery? Laser? More surgery?
Make your laparoscopy scar look better
Jun 21, 2018
Hi-There are multiple reasons that a scar can be noticeable, and the important point is that the surgeon or doctor identify those reasons before proposing a treatment.  Otherwise, he/she is throwing all sorts of treatments at you without necessarily understanding the cause of the problem.  This results in many patients either getting no improvement, or in some cases being made worse.  Any improvement is a matter of luck.In your case, the scar is visible because it is widened and indented.  ...
Which method should I use to treat my acne scar on my face and how much does it cost?
Acne Scar Treatment
Jun 2, 2018
Hi,I am sorry you have suffered from these acne scars.  I understand your pain.  I have been focused on helping patients with Acne scars for my entire career.  About 20 years ago I developed the FaSuLa concept to evaluate and treat acne scars (and any other scar for that matter).  Although with our current technology we can never make the skin absolutely perfect, I have helped countless patients. Only in the past 2-3 years have physicians begun using the term "Subcision".  But this has be...
My right eyelid (your left) seems to be droopy or not opened as much as my left eye. Is there
Drooping Eyelid
Aug 13, 2015
Many patients have drooping eyelids. If you are young, such as 18, this is much different than the more typical drooping eyelids we see in senior citizens, or just extra upper lid skin that can be treated with cosmetic blepharoplasty surgery. A good doctor will wonder why an 18 year old has a droopy lid before saying to you: "I can fix that with surgery in an hour." Indeed there can be serious, life threatening medical conditions, such as myasthenia gravis, that cause a...
Botox made my eyes smaller, will they become normal again?
My Eyes Look Smaller After Botox
Aug 13, 2015
This happens sometimes, even to patients of expert injectors. We try to avoid it. Most commonly it is due to receiving too much Botox (or any of the other neuromodulators) in the forehead. This causes the brow to fall down, and push the upper lid closed. Fortunately the weakening effects of Botox do not last forever- in fact you should feel back to normal in 1-3 months.Sincerely,Yoash R. Enzer, MD, FACS
Puffy upper eyelids!
Cause of Puffy Eyelids
Aug 13, 2015
Many people suffer from puffy eyelids. For some this is normal, and cosmetic surgery would be appropriate. But if a patient has puffy eyelids and swelling, there is a long list of medical conditions, some of which could be serious, that need to be evaluated first. Because if you have a medical illness, the treatment is not cosmetic eyelid surgery. Furthermore, it is important to figure this out, because some of those medical conditions could affect other parts of your...

18 is young to remove eyelid skin
Jun 29, 2015
It would be very atypical to remove eyelid skin in an 18 year old person. At most, some young people might have bulging fat pads due to chronic allergies that need sculpting, or perhaps to address some congenital issues. Not being able to close your eyelids is very serious, and could result in damage to the clear center part of your eye (your cornea). This could result in permanent damage to your vision. I would recommend you see an oculoplastic surgeon or eye doctor to help...
