How can I make my face look more proportional?
Facial Balance
Jun 4, 2020
Based on your photos and concerns, I would recommend a rhinoplasty, lip lift and a chin implant. The rhinoplasty will achieve a de-projection of your nose and refinement of the tip. Looking at the frontal view, it appears you can also benefit from a lip lift to improve the smile and overall balance of your lower face. A chin implant would improve the balance of your lower face as well, especially on the profile view. At a consultation with a surgeon, you can...
Should I do a lip lift/corner lift or rhinoplasty first?
Rhinoplasty and Lip Lift
Jun 4, 2020
Great question. Studies have shown that both surgeries can be done simultaneously safely. Based on your photos and your concerns, I believe you will be a great candidate for both procedures. The decision regarding which procedure you want to do first or whether you want both done the same day largely depends on what bothers you most and your surgeon's comfort. Best of luck!
Do I need a nose job for this or can my face still grow to fit it?
May 28, 2020
I would not expect to see significant bony facial changes after the age of 18. The decision whether you need a cosmetic rhinoplasty is entirely up to you. A consultation with a surgeon can help guide you with the decision if you remain unsure. A surgeon can often show what he or she can offer you using imaging tools and by showing you before and after photos of patients with similar concerns. I hope that helps!
Is sun exposure dangerous even after a closed nasal tip rhinoplasty?
May 28, 2020
Good question. You should be okay going in the sun a month and a half after your surgery. I always recommend wearing sunscreen when you are out in the sun. Having said that, most surgeons have different protocols for post-operative care and it is always best to ask your surgeon if you are unsure. Good luck!
Will I get keloid if I get rhinoplasty?
May 28, 2020
Great question. It is exceptionally rare to get a keloid from a rhinoplasty procedure. Having said that, any time a surgery is done and the skin is cut, one can expect a "scar". Vast majority of the time, the scars are not easily noticeable to an ordinary person. This is especially true in rhinoplasty surgery. Nevertheless, if you do form a scar that bothers you, it is important to let your surgeon know. Most surgeons have quite a few ways to...
Will moving the upper jaw only downward affect the nose in jaw surgery?
Jaw Surgery
May 28, 2020
Great question. Orthognathic surgery (jaw surgery) can definitely have some impact on your nose. Most common effects are widening of your nasal base or rotation of the tip. The exact movements of the jaw during the surgery are typically non-linear and the exact effect on your nose is rather difficult to predict. Due to this reason, the recommendation is often to wait at least 6 months after orthognathic surgery before...
Are my expectations realistic?
May 28, 2020
Based on the photos you have provided, I believe that you have realistic expectations and your results are achievable. Doing imaging with a surgeon during your consultation can help you and the surgeon create realistic goals for your surgery. Best of luck!
What would be the best way to get a thinner nose?
May 28, 2020
Thank you for your question. Based on your photos, I believe you will be an excellent candidate for rhinoplasty. Although filler can be used to address some of your concerns, such as making the nose appear more narrow, I believe a true surgical rhinoplasty will give you the result you are looking for.
Hope that helps!
Can I get a rhinoplasty if I am allergic to anesthesia?
Anesthesia Reaction
May 28, 2020
Great question. Anesthesia typically involves use of multiple medications that can go through the IV and/or gasses that you breathe in. Although true allergies are exceptionally rare, the anesthesia provider can typically modify the combination of agents used to give you the safest and most comfortable sedation for your rhinoplasty procedure. It would not hurt to bring any information you might have on your previous anesthesia reaction in order to...
Do I have a weak chin? If so, would fillers help, or do I need an implant?
Chin Implant
May 26, 2020
The decision whether you want to improve the projection of your chin is entirely up to you. Tools, such as imaging, can help you make that decision during a consultation. A chin implant and fillers are both great options for strengthening a weak chin. If HA fillers are used, they can also be dissolved if you decide you do not like the result.
I hope that helps.
Benefits of a chin implant?
Chin Implant
May 26, 2020
Great question! Aside from improving the projection of the chin, an implant can also have some relative effects on the adjacent facial structures. A chin implant, for example, can improve appearance of an over-projected nose and, in certain cases, improve neck contour.
Hope that helps!
Rhinoplasty candidate - What realistic results could I achieve?
May 26, 2020
Great question! Based on the photos you have provided and your concerns with your nose, I believe you will be a great candidate for a rhinoplasty. The first step is a consultation. At a consultation with your surgeon, you can often request a computer simulated treatment (imaging) based on your photos. The treatment is simulated largely based on your input and the surgeon's experience with what is a reasonable expectation. I find that it is the best way...
