Fat transfer can be a nice adjunct to a breast lift. It can give a bit of a boost, especially in the upper breast and cleavage area. It’s not done by all surgeons. Ideally patients should see someone that does fat transfer regularly. They can go over the pros and cons in detail.

Breast fat transfer can be used in conjunction with a breast implant to provide additional concealment of the edge of the implant as well as the boney prominences of either the ribs or the sternum. This is a fairly nuanced procedure and probably best left to a surgeon that does a fair bit of a fat transfer to the breast.

Everyone needs the opinion of a plastic surgeon in person to go over the procedure, risks and benefits to determine if it is suitable.

When I see patients in my clinic to discuss breast augmentation we typically talk about breast fat transfer and implants.

When they are opposed to an implant and we are focussing on breast fat transfer typically we would try to maximize the amount of volume that they can achieve. It is much more reliable to increase the size of an implant than it is to add fat.

Fat transfer in the setting of an implant can be effective at better concealing the implant. If that is not an issue the simplest thing to increase size, is to just open up the pocket and replace it with a larger implant. Typically when patients exchange implants there is little discomfort. It is a generally straightforward procedure. The value of a plastic surgery consultation cannot be overstated.

I typically would tell my patients that if they wished they could be doing home-based office work three to five days or so later. I would add a week to return to an office. It would be probably four weeks for full return to most physical jobs and going to the gym without many restrictions (other than no pressure on the breasts).
