Healing After Rhinoplasty
Mar 21, 2019
It is really too early to know what your final outcome will be. The tip is the place where the swelling takes the longest to resolve. If it is still firm and hard, that is a sign it is still healing. Numbness is also a good indicator of healing. When the numbness at the tip wears off it is usually at a time when most of the swelling has resolved also, although this is not exact. Noses take about 12 months to heal completely and can even take up to 18-24 months if the skin is very thick...
When do you typically have patients use silicone scar gel after a facelift?
Silicone Scar Gel
Mar 21, 2019
Although it certainly will not hurt to use it, I generally do not find it necessary to use silicone scar gel or any other scar reducing ointment after Facelift surgery. If the surgery is performed with good surgical technique there should be little tension on the wounds and they usually heal very well on their own. Good luck.

Strange feeling after facelift
Mar 21, 2019
It is all completely normal to have what you describe after face lifting surgery. Things feel tight, particularly in the neck. The ears are usually numb. The scalp can be numb which makes the hair feel "different". These things will all resolve with time. Although it will be considerably improved at 6-8 weeks. It can take 6-12 months for all of these things to completely resolve. Good Luck.
7 weeks post op face and neck lift, what is this bump on my face?
Lump on face after facelift and fat transfer
Mar 20, 2019
The most likely answer is that it is related to the fat transfer portion of the procedure. The fat has died in that small area or scar tissue has begun to form around the transplanted fat. I would definitely recommend speaking with you surgeon and letting him examine you. He will then be able to best advise on course of action. Good luck.
3.5 weeks post rhinoplasty: is it common to sneeze a lot after removing the cast?
Sneezing after rhinoplasty
Mar 20, 2019
After nasal surgery there is a lot of inflammation present in the lining of the nose. This inflammation can cause a number of nasal symptoms including congestion, runny nose, post nasal drip, and sneezing. As the healing process continues your sneezing should become less frequent. After 4-6 weeks I will sometimes recommend a nasal steroid spray such as Nasacort to help resolve some of these post rhinoplasty symptoms sooner. I would recommend you discuss your concerns with your...
Is it normal for my ears + sides of my cheeks to still be numb 4 weeks after a facelift?
Numbness after facelifting surgery
Mar 20, 2019
It is completely normal for you to still be numb 4 weeks after a facelift. Its also normal to have different amounts of numbness on the two sides. Although some sensation will start to return in as little as 6-8 weeks following the procedure, it usually takes 6-12 months for sensation to return to normal. Good Luck.
How long does it take for numbness to go away after facelift and platysmaplasty?
Numbness after facelifting surgery
Mar 20, 2019
All face lifting procedures result in some numbness. It is not a "risk" of the procedure but rather a "side effect" of it. The small ends of the sensory nerves are cut whenever skin is elevated away from the structures beneath. Although you will probably start to get some feeling back with in 6-8 weeks, generally it takes 6-12 months for all the sensation to return. During the intervening time many patients will get various sensations that are not "normal". As the nerves regenerate...

6 weeks post op rhinoplasty
Mar 20, 2019
It is really too early to know what your final outcome will be. There is often asymmetrical swelling in the first few months after a rhinoplasty. This can make the nose appear crooked. It is likely that this will improve over the 12 month healing time. I usually tell my patients that approximately 60-70% of the swelling resolves in the first 6-8 weeks (depending on skin thickness) and by 6 months 80-90% of the swelling is resolved. The final 10-20% finishes in 12 months or even longer....
Is it normal that my nostril is blocked one month after closed rhinoplasty?
Asymmetric breathing one month after rhinoplasty
Dec 18, 2018
I tell my patients that at 6 weeks after rhinoplasty about 60-70% of the swelling is resolved and at 6 month 80-90% of the swelling is resolved. It takes at least 12 months to be completely healed. In my experience breathing can actually take the longest to improve following the procedure. There are many reasons why it could be swollen more on one side than the other including where incisions were placed. If you are concerned I would definitely contact your surgeon so he can examine you in...
Had facelift 4 weeks ago. Still have some jowls. Will this improve?
Jowls 4 weeks post-op
Dec 18, 2018
It takes a long time for all swelling and healing to take place after a facelift. In fact, it can take up to 6-12 to be completely finished with the healing process. I tell my patients that they are seeing the majority of their result at 6-8 weeks post-op. If you are still concerned in another month, I would recommend you speak with your surgeon about it. Good luck.
4 days post-op for mini facelift. When will the lumpiness on cheeks go away?
Lumps 4 days post op
Dec 18, 2018
It is completely normal for the lumpiness you have to be present and may last days to weeks following any face lifting procedure. Although it is difficult, try to be patient and of course let your surgeon know of your concerns. Good luck
Is surgery on someone over 60 a waste of time?
Facelift after 60?
Dec 18, 2018
I have performed facelifts safely on patients up to 90 years old. The only limitation is whether a person is healthy enough to undergo the procedure. The results can be limited by the degree of elasticity of the tissues, but generally anyone can get a good result. It is true that if a patient has less elasticity they are more likely to relaxation of the tissues sooner after the procedure. Thus, as most people have poorer elasticity the older they get the more likely they...

Finding the "right" rhinoplasty surgeon
Dec 16, 2018
Although Plastic surgeons, Facial Plastic surgeons and Otolaryngologists (ENT surgeons) all are capable of performing rhinoplasty, there are things to look at when trying to decide who you should have perform your procedure. The most important of these is experience. You want a surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty. Try to find a surgeon who is performing at least 100 rhinoplasty procedures per year (150 is even better). Surgeons who have performed thousands of procedures in their...
