Do I have proptosis or ptosis?
Ptosis vs. Proptosis
Jul 18, 2018
Hello mujerlatina97,
Thank you for your question. Judging by the photographs alone, it appears you most likely have ptosis of the left upper eyelid, due to a “slipped” levator muscle (i.e., the muscle that helps open your eyes). This in turn has caused your lid crease to become attenuated and has caused the fat to recede, giving a somewhat hollow appearance.
However, there are other causes of eye/eyelid asymmetry, which I personally look…

Blepharoplasty with Loose Skin
Jul 18, 2018
Hello veronicac0,
Thank you for your question. Blepharoplasty primarily addresses exactly what you have: loose skin. This is typically achieved using several methods, including surgical removal of the excess skin, laser resurfacing, chemical peeling, etc., depending on the degree and nature of your skin. Additionally, fat can be removed or repositioned if needed. However, choosing the right procedure for you would require a…
Can we do a non-incision eyelid surgery now and do full incision surgery 5 years later?
Performing the suture method for eyelid crease formation prior to the incisional method.
Feb 11, 2018
Hello sleepycika,
Thank you for your question. While you certainly can have the suture (non-incisional) method to create an eyelid crease before a more definitive incisional procedure, it is generally preferable that you go for the more definitive option initially as any other prior procedures may cause scarring and possibly a less than ideal outcome.
Hope this helps!
What type of surgery would you reccomend to achieve the ideal eyes?
Asian blepharoplasty/double eyelid surgery.
Feb 11, 2018
Hello theplastic,
Thank you for your question. From the photo you included, it seems you have a monolid (i.e., an absent or an indistinct eyelid crease) and an epicanthal fold. The accompanying photos demonstrate an double eyelid that is tapered, that is, one that becomes more narrow toward the inner corner of the eye.
What you desire can be achieved by a double eyelid surgery ensuring a tapered crease formation, combined by an epicanthoplasty. This will allow the…
Is possible to get lower blepharoplasty at a lower cost at a major university such as UCSD?
Is it possible to get a cosmetic blepharoplasty at a teaching institute for a lower cost?
Feb 4, 2018
Hello teacake777,
Thank you for your question. Indeed, there are some teaching institutions that offer a reduced fee if a resident or fellow performs the procedure. This may not be available at all institutions, however. It is best that you call them directly and ask.
Moreover, to answer the questions completely, there are some ways to reduce cost, depending on what type of procedure you are looking to have. Certain…
Is Latisse safe for blepharitis?
Is Latisse safe for blepharitis?
Feb 4, 2018
Hello!
Thank you for your question. Blepharitis typically refers any condition that causes inflammation of the eyelid skin. As such, it has several causes, including skin diseases such as rosacea, or infections with bacteria or Demodex mites. Without a thorough examination, it is often hard to discern the real cause of the blepharitis. However, the result is the same: inflammation of the eyelid skin. Latisse comes from a…
Can fat loss around eyes caused by Latisse be reversed?
Can fat loss around the eyes caused by Latisse be reversed?
Feb 4, 2018
Hello JasmineDale,
Thank you for your question. Latisse is part of a family of medications called “prostaglandin analogs,” which are used in drop form for the treatment of glaucoma. As such, these medications can cause fat loss and other side effects around the eyes, a phenomenon called “prostaglandin-associated periorbitopathy.” With the proper application of Latisse, this risk is minimized. The good news is, these side…
