Facelift, SMAS lift or should I also address ligament?
Facelift, SMAS lift or should I also address ligament?
Sep 10, 2019
Don't get too focused on the nuances of various facelift techniques.  Find a surgeon that you can trust and who will listen to your goals to help guide you in the right direction. This next comment should not be taken as something negative.  There is simply no way that a patient can ever fully understand the subtleties among facelift techniques.  Even other surgeons don't get that unless they happen to be surgeons who do facelifts.  The big picture concepts are not too hard to grasp, but the...

3 Months Post Op Face and Neck Lift. Do I Need to Ask for a Revision or Will my Jawline/neck Tighten Up? (photo)
Sep 10, 2019
Yes, it does appear that a revision procedure might be the right option for you.Your area of concern is a very challenging area for facelift / necklift procedures.  What we are seeing now in your photo is skin laxity, but that is not all that is going on.  There may be some underlying muscle support layer laxity as well as other possibilities such as fullness related to the submandibular glands or digastric muscles.  Unlike what was mentioned in some of the other comments, I am not con...
How much is a facelift?
How much does a facelift cost?
Sep 10, 2019
With my patients we always make a point to try to understand the concerns and goals then think through what would be the "textbook answer" for the patient.  Once we know what the best option is then we can think about cost and other real world issues like downtime.  If cost is a concern then we can explore other options that will still be helpful for the patient. For a facelift there are 3 basic categories of cost to keep in mind:1.) Surgeon's Fee.   This is the fee for the procedure its...
Are fibrin glue facelifts rarely done?
Fibrin glue facelift
Sep 10, 2019
As other answers have pointed out, there is no such thing as a fibrin glue facelift.Rather, fibrin "glue" (usually used as the brand name Artiss) is a medication used during facelifts to reduce bruising and swelling.  It is a liquid that is applied under the skin near the very end of the procedure just before the final sutures are placed to close the incisions.  The fibrin part of the solution helps to reduce oozing which in turn reduces bruising.  That plus the adhesive quality of the Arti...
Will people notice the scar after facelift?
Will people notice the scar after facelift?
Sep 10, 2019
[the attached link shows a few examples of how a facelift scar can be hidden with minimal visibility even very early in the healing process]A little trick that we all use is to call them "incision lines" since that sounds better than saying scar.  However, there will always be a scar.  ALWAYS.The key is to make these incision lines / scars look like faint little lines that blend into pre-existing wrinkles, folds, or hairlines.  Creating a good facelift scare that is not noticeable is ex...
What can I do to reverse damage from FaceTite?
What can I do to reverse damage from FaceTite?
Sep 10, 2019
Without being able to see a comparison to how these areas looked before your procedure it is difficult to say with any certainty what has happened in the areas of concern for you.I use FaceTite and EmbraceRF frequently in my facial plastic surgery practice and can at least offer a few insights that may be helpful for you. First, even though you are a few months out from your procedure there is still time for continued improvements. It takes 6+ months for the complete results to develop.  I w...

Will facelift improve lines around mouth?
Sep 10, 2019
In your case (and that of almost all patients) a facelift should not be used to try to improve lines immediately around the lips.  Based on one semi-smiling photo it is difficult to make an accurate assessment of the best option for you.  Also, without being able to have a conversation with you it is difficult to figure out which options would be best.  Filler makes the most sense, and it may simply be that when you tried that before it was not done correctly or perhaps you and your do...
Mini lift, jagged raised scars behind ears. Will this ever go away?
mini-facelift scars behind ears
Dec 28, 2018
The most important point to keep in mind in your case is that you are only 7 weeks post-op.  The incisions and resulting scars behind the ears tend to heal more slowly than the areas in front of the ears.  The skin behind the ears is thicker, often has a bit more tension on the closure, and is genetically more likely to have issues with scar thickening or longer healing than in other areas. Also, as the skin heals there is an inflammatory period that lasts around 6-8 weeks on average.  On...

Alar base scar improvement
Dec 21, 2018
With all scars there are two main issues:  color and contour.  In your case at 5 months after surgery you have had a good amount of time for most of the early healing to occur.  Patients with skin tone similar to yours should expect some of the darkening or brown discoloration of the scars to continue to fade some more over the next few months. However, the area of concern you have is more about contour and the edges of the incision perhaps not lining up as well as they could.  An in perso...
How can I improve my upper eyelid scars?
How can I improve my upper eyelid scars? (Photos)
Dec 19, 2018
Your case is unique.  Poor appearance of upper blepharoplasty scars is not usually seen but can of course occur.  It is uncommon to see widening like you have as well as that web development at the end closer to the nose. The best suggestion would be to meet in person with a surgeon who focuses a significant portion of his or her practice on revision eyelid surgery.
I am considering blepharoplasty to upper eyelids. What is the average recovery time?
I am considering blepharoplasty to upper eyelids. What is the average recovery time?
Dec 19, 2018
Recovery after upper eyelid surgery varies from patient to patient, but in general it is a very easy recovery overall. Most patients can get back to normal day to day activities very quickly.  You have to expect some visible issues like swelling and bruising, and those typically get much better by about 7-10 days.  It may take closer to 2 weeks or possibly longer for some patients to feel presentable again. After that time there is still going to be some puffiness especially just above the i...

I had heart attack one year ago and now I am OK. I want to do a lower face lift. Is it dangerous to do it?
Dec 19, 2018
All decisions in a situation like this are deferred to the patient's Cardiologist. Any patient with a history of a heart attack must have clearance from their Cardiologist for a facelift, and this even includes so-called mini facelifts done under local anesthesia in the office.
Do you have to take antibiotics for a lower face lift?
Do you have to take antibiotics after a facelift?
Dec 19, 2018
There will be exceptions for patients with certain medical conditions, but in general a typical patient does NOT need to be on antibiotics after facelift surgery.  There is no good data to support the routine use of post-operative antibiotics, yet many surgeons continue to do that more out of habit than science. It is common practice to receive IV antibiotics during surgery.
Will I be ok to go home after lower face lift with platysmaplasty?
Outpatient surgery for lower face lift
Dec 19, 2018
The vast majority of facelift procedures done nationwide are outpatient procedures.  That is an acceptable standard and quite safe. However, every patient's situation must be considered individually based on medical history and other related issues.

Is 48 too young for a deep plane facelift?
Dec 19, 2018
Age doesn't matter. The choice of when to consider having a facelift is based on your goals and your anatomy.  There are certain signs of aging that are best addressed by surgery.  Those usually include issues related to laxity and sagging.  Although most people wait until their 50s or 60s to have a facelift, there are many patients younger than that who have enough laxity issues that a facelift is clearly going be an appropriate treatment.Another point to address is that a deep plane fa...
