What can I do about my uneven eyelids/eyebrows?
Asymmetric eyelid folds and eyebrows
Sep 10, 2014
If you like the right side…A simple solution would be to use a small amount of Botox on the left forehead. This would have the effect of lowering the brow to match the right side at the same time would reduce the visible space above the left eyelashes.
Is cutting the outer canthus common for orbital and cheekbone fractures?
Cantholysis to approach orbital fracture
Aug 26, 2014
Simple answer: it depends on the fracture.A small orbital floor fracture may be approached through the eyelid without canthal takedown in selected cases. However, if the space is too tight for adequate visualization or with multiple fractures along the rim, like a trimalar fracture, it requires better exposure to visualize, reduce and fixate the fractures.
I am 68 years old and feel 100! How can I get rid of these bags under my eyes?
Festoons
Aug 25, 2014
Festoons are tricky to treat and should be approached individually based on your anatomy and risk tolerance.Your photo suggests tear trough hollowing, decent of the cheek fat and a lateral triangular area of tissue swelling. My first approach in this situation would be surgical to normalize the anatomy and stretch the festoon. The rewards for surgery are that it directly addresses anatomic defects, may allow partial excision of the festoon, utilizes a typical blepharoplasty…
I keep hearing about Botox being used for off-label reasons. Can this also be done with filler
Off label procedures
Aug 21, 2014
The amount of time, cost and scrutiny to obtain FDA approval for any drug, device or procedure forces companies to begin the process with by applying for indications that have the highest degree of success with the least risk of complication. After an FDA approval, off-label use is exactly as it sounds, using the drug, device or implant for a different indication. Many times after approval, other indications emerge and companies may or may not seek FDA approval for these…
Lateral Canthoplasty/pexy – suitable or not for scleral show/downward angle of lateral canthus
Lateral Canthoplasty
Aug 20, 2014
The result you achieve with a lateral canthoplasty depends on the anatomy you bring to the table. This is why it is important to actually be examined to evaluate the dynamics of how your anatomy will be influenced by canthal repositioning and whether an alternative or additional approach will be necessary to achieve your goals.
Eyebrows, eyelashes, & now hair is falling out from using an IPL laser from China. Will Latiss
Latisse after IPL laser hair loss
Aug 20, 2014
Eyelash and eyebrow hair grow in cycles that include three phases, growth, resting and resorption. Latisse works by extending the growth phase of hair. This allows lashes to grow and remain longer resulting in longer and thicker lashes. The actual mechanism of how latisse works is unknown, but lash growth was discovered as a side effect for its original use in glaucoma. You frequently hear about permanent change of eye color in ads, and if it occurs is permanent, but…
What is the best option for my heavy upper eyelids?
Blepharoplasty and the eyelid crease
Aug 19, 2014
The appearance of an upper eyelid is highly dependent upon placement of the crease. This can be due to familial genetics, after trauma or surgery. For example, Asian and American Indians frequently have a lower crease (2-5mm) that results in a fuller eyelid with little space above the lashes. A mid-level upper eyelid crease (8-10mm) typically reveals more visible space above the lashes. A high crease (12-15+mm) can occur naturally, but is more frequently the result of…
