Can I achieve a 5 mm deprojection? Would I be risking any future complications due to excess
Nose deprojection with rhinoplasty
Jan 23, 2023
Thank you for your question and photographs. Yes, with the proper techniques, deprojection can be achieved with rhinoplasty. Based on your photographs, you need an overall reduction in the size of your nose, including your dorsum (bridge) and tip projection, as well as correction of your nasal tip ptosis (drooping) without over-rotating your nose. You have good chin projection to begin with, and would achieve good facial balance with an open rhinoplasty. Best of luck!Dr. Giriraj Sharma |…
Can an open roof gap surgery and rhinoplasty be performed at the same time?
Correction of Open Roof Deformity
Jan 23, 2023
Thank you for your question. Yes – correction of an open roof deformity can be performed in an open revision rhinoplasty. An open roof deformity is typically the result of a reduction of the nasal bridge (hump) during rhinoplasty without adequately restructuring the nasal bones (osteotomies) and stabilizing the midvault of the nose (spreader grafts). If you have never had rhinoplasty surgery before, I would need to see a full set of photographs (different angles) to get a better sense of the…
What’s the youngest age for rhinoplasty & how big a change can be made?
Teenage rhinoplasty
Apr 30, 2022
Thank you for your question and photographs. Different plastic surgeons will have different age criteria/cutoffs when it comes to rhinoplasty. Generally, one should not undergo a cosmetic rhinoplasty before age 16. After 16, it is reasonable for you and your surgeon to consider a rhinoplasty if your goals of surgery are appropriate, if you have realistic expectations and you have good support at home. While it is understandable that the shape of someone’s nose can significantly affect their…
Is it possible to have the dorsal hump removed while keeping the general appearance of my fac
Rhinoplasty with natural results
Apr 30, 2022
Thank you for your question and photographs. The changes you are seeking are all very reasonable, and are all indications for a rhinoplasty: dorsal hump reduction, tip rotation (reducing the droop) and tip de-projection (bringing the tip closer to the face). These can all be addressed with a rhinoplasty. A well executed rhinoplasty should also appear natural. This means, the nose fits the patient’s face and maintains the patient’s identity after surgery. The nose itself should also look…
Could my nose be improved with a cartilage graft Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty with cartilage grafts
Feb 9, 2022
Thank you for your question and photographs. While I cannot make a complete assessment of your nose from photographs alone, derotation and correction of a wide nose are common issues which can be treated with rhinoplasty. ‘Open structure’ rhinoplasty involves the usage of cartilage grafts to reconstruct and stabilize the nose. This cartilage is typically taken from the septum in healthy patients who have not had prior rhinoplasty surgery. It is important to seek opinion from a Rhinoplasty…
Facial asymmetry, deep nasolabial folds, and drooping – what should I do?
Facial asymmetry and lower face fullness
Feb 1, 2022
Thank you for your question and photographs. First off, I want to ensure you there is nothing “wrong” with your face at all. Every human face has asymmetry. Your facial skeleton may indeed have asymmetry in terms of development and projection of your bones on the left side, which would lead to slight asymmetry of your nose and differences in structural support for the soft tissues overlying your bones. It is not possible to make a thorough facial assessment based on your 2 frontal…
24 years old and my face is already sagging – what can I do?
Treatment of nasolabial folds in a young patient
Feb 1, 2022
Thank you for your question and photographs. The nasolabial folds (NLF) deepen as we age due to a multitude of factors including gravitational descent of midfacial soft tissue structures (fat pads, muscle), weakening of ligaments and gradual loss of skin elasticity and thickness. For very select patients, the NLF can be softened with a conservative amount of dermal filler or fat injection. However, excess volumization of the NLF can look unnatural, and give the appearance of a simian or…
