Can blepharoplasty still be performed with visible veins around the eyes?
Blepharoplasty and veins
Sep 8, 2017
Hi. Veins around the eyes/ eyelids are generally not an issue when performing eyelid surgery, especially if your physician in an expert eyelid surgeon.  Hope this helps. Ira Vidor, M.D.
Ptosis surgery seems overcorrected can I do anything immediately?
Early post operative asymmetry after ptosis surgery
Sep 5, 2017
Hi. Ptosis surgery usually takes several weeks to heal (occasionally months). 2 days is very early in the healing process, and things will often settle down. It would be very unusual to perform a ptosis revision at 2 days post op. Contact your surgeon if you have any concerns, as they know the most about your case. If you want a second opinion, then see an oculoplastic surgeon. Best regards, Ira Vidor, M.D.
U/L bleph dryness: what can I do to relieve the dryness?
Eye irritation after blepharoplasty
Sep 5, 2017
Hi. Patients can sometimes develop symptoms or irritated eyes after blepharoplasty. It is often temporary, and resolves in a few weeks to months. Occasionally, these symptoms can last longer. Without photos or an exam, it is difficult to determine why you are currently having these symptoms. I recommend you contact your surgeon to discuss your issues. I feel you want a second opinion then I recommend consulting an oculoplastic surgeon. Hope this helps. Best regards, Ira Vidor, M.D.
Is there a surgery available to fix my non working eyelid after a severe head injury?
Ptosis caused by trauma
Sep 5, 2017
Hi. Sorry to hear about your injury. There may be a way to correct your droopy eyelid (ptosis), but you need an in person exam to determine your options. Potential for surgical correction depends on many factors including how long it has been since your injury, your forehead and eyelid nerve function, and the health of your eye. It would be best to see an oculoplastic surgeon. Best regards, Ira Vidor, M.D.
Why is my eye swelling/edema under right eye?
Malar edena
Aug 25, 2017
Hi. From your photos, it looks like you have malar edema (cheek swelling). There are many reasons this can happen. Tear trough or cheek filler is a common cause. It can sometimes occur weeks to months after filler injection. I would follow up with your injector to make sure nothing else is going on. If it is just swelling, it typically reaponds very well to a short course of corticosteroids (such as a medrol dosepak). Best regards, Ira Vidor, M.D.
Do I need a canthopexy?
Canthopexy
Aug 25, 2017
Hi. You do have a little lower sclera show, but I think your eyes look fine. If you are significantly bothered and really want to pursue a surgical option, then you would likely benefit from adding support to your lower lid (by adding a lower lid spacer graft, adding volume, or lifting your cheek). A canthopexy would be an adjunct procedure. Again, I would probably leave it alone unless you are severely bothered. Hope this helps. Best regards, Ira Vidor, M.D.
How safe is canthoplasty, upper eyelid surgery and lower retraction at a young age?
You should be seen in person to determine what you need
Jun 8, 2017
Hi.  It sounds like you have thought about your eyelids.  There are many ways to adjust the canthus and lower eyelids. There are also several techniques for ptosis repair.  It’s hard to say what you need without a consultation.  Photos would help to form an opinion. Be sure to see an eyelid specialist (oculoplastic surgeon). Best regards, Ira Vidor, M.D.
Is one eye bigger and higher than the other?
Eye asymmetry
Jun 7, 2017
Hi. You do appear to have mild asymmetry.  This can be due to the actual position of the eyelid, or where the eye itself sit in the orbit (the eye socket). Mild facial symmetry is very common and may be normal. Sometimes facial or eye asymmetry is part of a disease process.  Improvement can be possible with surgery, but a detailed examination is needed to determine a cause as well as your best options. Hope this helps. Best regards, Ira Vidor, M.D.
Is is it possible to make my eyes more symmetrical?
Ptosis
Jun 7, 2017
Hi. It looks like you have ptosis and are compensating by raising your brow. You need to be examined in person to see how your eyelid and brow moves, where they sit rest, and how well the eyelid and forehead muscles function. You are probably a good surgical candidate but an exam is needed to determine the best surgical approach. Hope this helps. Best regards, Ira Vidor, M.D.
What care do doctors take so the eyelid fat is not hollowed out during blephs?
Volume preserving lower blepharoplasty
Jun 7, 2017
Hi. Volume should be carefully addressed with lower blepharoplasty.  Fat repositioning (also called redrawing or redistribution) is a technique that uses the “bulging” lower eyelid fat to fill in the sunken area.  I usually reposition fat when I a perform lower blepharoplasty and it is very successful for many patients. Now, no two patients are the same, and there are many different variations of lower blepharoplasty.  See an expert eyelid surgeon to determine what your best options are. G…
I am almost 5 months into my upper blepharoplasty surgery with no results. Should I be seeing results by
blepharoplasty results
Jun 7, 2017
Hi.  Most blepharoplasty patients are well healed at 5 months post op. There can occasionaly be some redness or pigmentation of the incision line, but typically the eyelid position has settled to its final position by then. You should discuss your concerns with your surgeon or possibly seek a second opinion. Without examining you it is impossible to form a definitive opinion, but you may benefit from revision eyelid surgery or a brow lift. Hope this helps. Best regards, Ira Vidor, M.D.
I am 64 years old. Is healing an ectropion possible without taping or surgery?
ectropion after lower blepharoplasty
Jun 7, 2017
Hi.  Sorry to hear about your trouble. Ectropion can potentially occur after lower blepharoplasty.  It appears as if you are still a bit swollen. If you have sufficient residual skin and adequate tendon support, then your eyelids may still improve a bit.  Some patients are fairly well healed at 6 weeks, but others take longer. Taping might help, but can cause skin irritation (as you have found out). If you are stiff, then antiinflammatory/ antifibrotic injections may help (I use 5-FU/ kenalo…
Had Hyaluronidase to dissolve old under eye filler a few days ago and now I have blurry vision. Is this n
Hyaluronidase to dissolve filler should not affect your vision
Mar 7, 2017
Hi.  Hyaluronidase injections to dissolve tear trough filler should not cause any vision problems. Autoimmune diseases can often cause eye problems. You need to follow up with your injector as well as an ophthalmologist (or oculoplastic surgeon) immediately. Hope this helps.  Best regards, Ira Vidor, M.D.
Had upper blepharoplasty surgery done 5 months ago. Why my eyes still dry and blurry?
Eye problems after blepharoplasty
Mar 7, 2017
Hi.  Sorry to hear about your problems. It is difficult to give advice without seeing photos. Also, in order to give an accurate opinion, an in person consultation is necessary to to examine your eyes and how your eyelid is moving/ blinking.  Dry eye is one of the risks of blepharoplasty.  The risk can be greatly reduced by being conservative when removing eyelid skin, but the dynamic movement of the eyelid can still be affected during any eyelid procedure. Lubricating drops, o…
Sutures marks 2 weeks after sutures removal?
Blepharoplasty incision line
Mar 7, 2017
Hi.  You are still early in the healing process. In some cases, it can take several months for a blepharoplasty incision to full heal. There is a good chance that your incision will improve with time.  If it still bothers you after a few months, then there are options to help improve the appearance (corticosteroid/ antifibrotic injections, laser resurfacing, scar excision).  Be sure to follow up with your surgeon.  Best regards, Ira Vidor, M.D.
