Weight loss: am I candidate for a neck lift?
Platysmal bands
May 22, 2022
The two vertical lines running just beside the midline of your neck are the edges of the platysma muscle. In some patients these can be made less obvious through injections like Botox/Xeomin. They can also be sutured together in a procedure called a "platysmaplasty". If you had a neck lift or lower facelift I think you should consider a platysmaplasty at the same time. These terms can be all used interchangeably which can be confusing. Often a necklift includes a platysmaplasty so discuss...
Is this neck trauma normal 2 years after a neck lift? Is there a procedure to help reduce this?
Check in with your surgeon and consider a dermatologist
May 22, 2022
Hello. Thank you for your question. You may have a couple of sutures starting to poke through that your surgeon could remove. It may be worthwhile seeing a cosmetic dermatologist who has interest in laser treatments. These can be helpful with redness of the skin and some of the other changes that have developed in your neck. Further surgery will not help the skin although it may be able to lessen the prominence of the vertical platysmal bands.

Altered skin sensation after facial surgery - see a neurologist
May 22, 2022
Hello. Thank you for your question. I see that it was posted back in 2019. If you are still having problems, I have had one patient experience a similar sensation under her neck skin. I referred her to a neurologist who treated her with some medications that were very helpful to settle things down. This could be something you can try if you have not already done so.
Am I too young for a facelift at 29?
A facelift can be done at 29 but it may not last forever
May 22, 2022
Thank you for your question. I have seen some excellent deep plane facelift results in patients in the late 20's and 30's. Typically these patients had significant redundant skin with poor elasticity. This can be checked for as part of a pre-operative consultation. The major concern in your patients is how long the surgery may last for. Gravity and time will be working against you so it is possible by 10-15 years things will be right back where they started and another procedure will be...
Can a facelift be used to treat nasiolabal folds?
A deep plane facelift can improve the appearance of nasolabial folds. Fat grafting is not needed.
May 22, 2022
Thank you for your question. Some types of facelift do not release the midface and midfacial fat and hence lead to little change in the appearance of the nasolabial fold. The deep plane facelift releases a group of ligaments between the skin and deeper structures call the "zygomatic ligaments". Once these are released it allows the midface to be repositioned. This will elevate the skin and soft tissues of the nasolabial fold. Fat grafting is not necessary.
Can a deep plane lift be performed on somebody who has silicone cheek implants?
Cheek implants before deep plane facelift is no problem
Sep 23, 2020
Cheek implants are inserted in a subperiosteal plane through a mucosal incision. A deep plane facelift is performed in a layer that is superficial and well away from cheek implants. It is very safe to have any facelift over the top of cheek implants and they will not be disturbed.
I have performed deep plane facelifts in many patients with silicone cheek implants and there has never been a problem.
Are deep plane facelifts the wrong technique if one wants a slightly unnatural pulled appearanc
Facial tension can be controlled through a deep plane facelift
Sep 23, 2020
Once the face has been released from it's retaining ligaments in a deep plane facelift the surgeon has to make a decision about how tight to suture the SMAS flap up in front of the ear. Very tight sutures will produce a pulled appearance. Sutures placed more loosely will give a more natural appearance. The tension in the face can be customised depending on the patient's preference, the amount of laxity in the face and neck and the surgeon's preference.
Most patients are seeking a very...
