Answer Snippet
How can I improve symmetry in the mouth/jaw area?
asymmetry after bells palsy
Sep 8, 2020
A facial nerve palsy can be really devastating because it changes your face and they way you interact with the world. fortunately most people regain function, but like you - it's not always 100%. with the weakness on one side there can be chronic contraction of muscles which may make them feel tight, and the face can 'pull' to the involved side or more likely the other. there are several ways to approach this - and you might need a mixture. some carefully placed botox can make the weakness...
Under eye fillers right for me?
fillers to your lids for dark cirlces
Sep 8, 2020
Thank you for the photos. dark circles are usually caused by some combination of shadowing (volume loss), think skin, fluid retention, and then sometimes people are genetically predisposed (ie - family members have dark skin, or been that way since youth). fillers can help with the volume loss component and sometimes with the think skin component but not with the other reasons. looking at your photos you do have some volume loss or 'sunken eyes' so fillers may improve things, but it also...
Is it safe to wear contacts right after a blepharoplasty if I don't pull on my eyelids?
no contacts after lid surgery
Aug 11, 2020
The reason not to wear contacts after eyelid surgery is that your lids are swollen and a bit stiff and contact lens are fit to sit under the lids and they dont fit correctly when the lids are swollen, putting you at risk for contact related issues. you can probably get back into them after ~10 days if all is healing as expected.
Should I get both eyelids treated? Recommend only right eye.
go for symmetry!
Aug 11, 2020
You absolutely should have a blepharoplasty on both upper lids - that will be the best way to approach symmetry (because true symmetry actually does not exist in nature.) If you only treat the right, you will still be asymmetric, then likely have surgery on the left and you and your surgeon will 'chase your tail' trying to get it right. there is also some subtle volume loss in your superior sulcus on the left side and often times some fat can be mobilized inferiorly on that side to help fill...
What is wrong with my eye or eyelid? How can this be treated?
drooping upper lid
Aug 11, 2020
It appears that you have congenital ptosis of the left upper lid. this will not improve spontaneously. it is likely visually significant and fixing this should be covered by insurance. you should see an oculoplastic surgeon who is experienced with congenital ptosis surgery. good luck!
I have noticed lately that I have one eye bigger than the other and don't know if it's normal. Wh
reasons for one eye to appear larger than the other
Mar 11, 2020
Thank you for the photo - perhaps you are noticing the left eye is larger than the other ? a 'lump' in the back of the eye is concerning, and there are numerous things on the differential for what could be causing this and you should follow up with an ophthalmologist and likely an oculoplastic surgeon who specializes in this area of medicine. if there is a mass behind your eye it can push the eye forward and make it appear as if one is larger than the other.
good luck and see if...
How can I fix a droopy lower eyelid?
fixing a droopy lower lid
Mar 11, 2020
Unfortunately the photo is a little blurred and not central, so it is difficult to comment specifically, however there are numerous reasons for lower lids to 'droop' in younger patients and these should be formally evaluated by an oculoplastic surgeon. there are many excellent ones in LA. this evaluation could help discern what is causing the asymmetry and guide you in the correct direction for improvement
good luck
Can a small amount of under eye filler adversely effect the results of a lower bleph?
can lower lid filler affect lower lid blepharoplasty results
Mar 11, 2020
Filler in the lower lids can absolutely act like a sponge and retain fluid after lower lid blepharoplasty - even fluid placed years previously. worth mentioning this to your surgeon if you are experiencing some prolonged swelling and should be easily reversible with a small amount of hyaluronidase (the reversal agent)
good luck!
How does injection position of Botox/Xeomin affect the medial brow and nose?
botox makes your medial brows droop
Aug 27, 2019
You are an example, I think, of how each patient's anatomy is different. the fact that this has happened with multiple different injectors likely means that 'typical' injection patterns don't work for you - most people have a frontalis muscle that interdigitates with the eyebrow depressors along the orbital rim - typically an injection too deep in this area makes eyebrows droop (or over treatment of the frontalis for forehead lines - but 8 units isn't a lot in this area)
have you...
Bells Palsy and Botox/Fillers... is it safe?
botox and facial nerve palsy
Aug 20, 2019
I'm so sorry you're going through this. facial nerve palsies can be so hard to get through. botox should be totally safe at this point, and in fact sometime we use the toxin to maximize symmetry and to reduce synkenesis (where sometimes the nerve gets 'rewired' wrong and causes unwanted spasms)
good luck!
Would Botox fix a chin that moves too much?
botox to the chin
Aug 20, 2019
Botox treatment of the mentalis muscle can relax the muscle that causes a bunching or 'orange peel' look to the chin. it can also help to soften the muscles that depress the corners of the mouth. it's a nice addition to treatment with filler in this area
Can Botox in the forehead and glabella effect the nose shape or cause heavy feeling in tip of nos
botox can change your facial shape
Jul 2, 2019
Although considered an off-label application by the FDA botulinum toxins can change the shape of the face, the nose included. every patient's anatomy is different and some people have stronger or weaker muscles (ie - treatment should never be one size fits all). in the glabella there are muscles that insert along the nasal bone and some people have quite strong nasalis muscles (that cause bunny lines) botox treatment to one area can absolutely 'upset the balance' of a facial unit -...
1 year post op eyelid surgery, upper eyelid on one eye is smaller. Can I ask to fix it?
uneven eyelids a year after surgery
Jul 2, 2019
Honestly there are so many variables here and with only the one photo it is difficult to say what is going on. healing should only take a matter of months and if you haven't brought this up with your surgeon before now it might be hard to get him or her to help correct it at this point.
in this photo it appears as if your chin is up a bit, making you look slightly down - this makes it hard to see if there is ptosis on the left or not, but you certainly hold that brow up more than the...
Overcorrected eyelid or overdone blepharoplasty on my left eye? Should I get another doctor to co
ptosis of the other eyelid
Jun 25, 2019
I agree with previous physicians who answered your question. it appears that you have Herring's reaction - where elevating the lower eyelid causes drooping of the opposite lid. this can be corrected and if you have a good relationship with your original surgeon up until now he or she would be happy to correct this.
good luck
What if my lower eye bags are caused by allergies? Can I still do lower eyelid blepharoplasty? (p
blepharoplasty for 'allergic lower lid bags'
Jun 25, 2019
Blepharoplasty can improve lower lid fullness related to prolapsed fat by either removing re transposing the fat. fluid retention related to ocular allergies or malar fluid in the upper cheeks is not well addressed by lower lid surgery. allergic swelling should improve with antihistamines. swelling in the upper cheek (malar fluid) waxes and wanes and is very difficult to control. both of these issues may not resolve with lower lid surgery unfortunately. however surgery may improve...
