Can Botox help with this frowning issue? I am 26 and do not (yet) have frown lines.
Botox for glabellar furrows
Jun 21, 2018
Hello- yes you are a perfect candidate for Botox (or any of the other botulinum toxins) to the area between your eyebrows to reduce the contraction of your glabellar muscles. It appears you have a genetic configuration of a low brow position and strong glabellar muscles that are causing furrows- Botox can soften these furrows and elevate the brows. Botox is not permanent and very low risk and so undergoing a treatment just to “try it out” is very reasonable. Good luck!
Double chin on either side of neck seven weeks after facelift/chin lipo/neck lift. How can this b
Submandibular glands cause double bulges under the mandible
May 14, 2018
Removing subcutaneous fat during necklifting, along with tightening the platysma, can cause the submandibular glands (SMG) to become visible. Your photos unmistakably demonstrate the shape and contour of the SMGs bilaterally. These can be resected in a revisional procedure, and this would be the only truly effective way of improving this contour. Discuss in detail with your surgeon. Good luck!
Is there one procedure that can address four problems in neck?
Revision necklifts may require advanced maneuvers
May 14, 2018
Thanks for excellent photos- you have a situation in which the platysma as well as submandibular glands are contributing to the imperfect postop neck contour. If you underwent revision, platysma resection along with submandibular gland debulking would be required to address the contour irregularities. Good luck!
Did neck lift fail? 3 months post op.
Sometimes the platysma muscle must be resected
May 14, 2018
Thanks for your question, and yes we can see the problem- you have a powerful platysma muscle that shows up as “neck bands”. Most necklifts involve manipulation of the platysma to achieve a tight neckline. Sometimes, advanced maneuvers such as platysma resection, digastric resection, and possibly debulking of the submandibular gland may be necessary to achieve the best contour. Your photo demonstrates a situation in which I would resect the platysma, making the bands…
Fat grafting for facial dent accident on cheek.
Reconstructive facial fat transfer
May 12, 2018
After trauma, you may be able to get your surgeon to bill your insurance company for reconstructive fat transfer. Limited fat transfer can be performed both under local anesthesia or sedation. Downtime is minimal, about 7-10 days of social downtime. Good luck!
Upper eyelids interfering with eyesight, advice?
Several options exist/ really depends on your goals
May 7, 2018
Hello! Thank you for submitting your photograph. We can see that your left side has a lower forhead/eyebrow position. This is causing heaviness on the left upper eyelid. If you’re looking for a solution that produces both the best cosmetic outcome as well as functional vision improvement, then I would suggest a conservative endoscopic forhead/brow lift surgery that improves symmetry by lifting the left side more. Whether or not you would also benefit from some…

Asymmetry after cancer surgery
Mar 30, 2018
Based on your description, you might benefit from a unilateral (one-sided) brow lift surgery. If the drooping is substantial and affects your vision, you might even qualify for partial insurance coverage, depending on your plan. There are numerous brow lifting techniques and so I’d recommend you continue conversing with your surgeon to educate yourself further. You’ll then be in a better position to choose your best path forward. Good luck!
Would insurance cover an upper blepharoplasty on me?
Insurance can cover ptosis surgery
Mar 30, 2018
Based on your photo, you’d likely qualify to have insurance cover your ptosis surgery. A caveat is that you have dry eyes- the underlying causes for this would need to be explored and treated first, as ptosis surgery can exacerbate dryness when your eyes are more open. You have many oculoplastic surgeons in your area who are very qualified to treat you. Good luck!
Eyelid and brow lift – Devastated 4 months post-op. What are my options? Can I still achieve a de
direct brow lifts are not ideal cosmetic procedures
Mar 27, 2018
While a direct browlift is very effective for functional elevation in cases where vision is affected, it is not great as a cosmetic procedure and does not address the temples or asymmetry very well. Also, the scars are visible and will not ever completely disappear. You also have volume loss, and skin aging. As difficult as this sounds, I’d suggest waiting for 6 months of healing and then consulting with a surgeon who is more sophisticated in his/her…
Is using rib cartilage really necessary for my first rhinoplasty?
Rib cartilage is a Rib cartilage is wonderful tool for reconstructive rhinoplasty, but
Mar 24, 2018
Reconstructive rhinoplasty requiresresetting the bone and cartilage scaffolding of the nose. Often, the reconstruction can be challenging negotiating the warping of the septum, and damage to the bone and cartilage junctions. Depending on the extent of your injury, substantial grafting might be required to open your airway, and provide long-term structural support. In the vast majority of cases, septal cartilage is quite adequate for reconstructive purposes, especially if…
One eye is hooded and the other is not. Can I have a blepharoplasty on one eye?
You have ptosis and don’t need blepharoplasty
Mar 19, 2018
Hello! Your right eye is more ptotic (droopier) than your left eye. It’s kind of like the garage door hangs down lower on that side, and the attachment to the garage door opener needs to be tightened. That’s exactly what ptosis surgery accomplishes. In fact, you could be treated with a one-sided behind-the-eyelid incision. This is a ten minute procedure under local anesthesia. What’s more is that you might even qualify for insurance coverage. Go find a local oculoplastic surgeon…
Can my lower eyelid be reshaped?
The contour of your lower eyelids is related to the cheek anatomy
Mar 4, 2018
Your lower eyelid bulge is prominent because the ligamentous attachment of your under eye muscle – the orbicularis muscle – is tight due to your genetics. You also have a cheekbone anatomy that is relatively flat/recessed – also due to genetics. At this early stage, you would be excellent candidate for nonsurgical filler treatments to expand the ligament region, and perhaps add a little volume to your cheek as well. This would smooth out your lower eyelid – cheek c…
Why does my nose look small from the side but big from 3/4th perspective?
The artistry of a beautiful nose has to do with proportions
Feb 19, 2018
You are right that with your face relaxed, your nasal side profile is elegant. However, the 3/4 profile reveals minor issues with the width of your nose and also your tip definition. Ideally, the nasal base would fit within lines drawn down from the inside corner of your eyes (medial canthi). Also, your nasal tip lacks definition- -and this is more obvious on 3/4 and probably frontal view. Adjustment to the base of your nose along with the nasal tip might address these proportion…
Cocaine bump one month before rhinoplasty, can I still get surgery?
Safety first
Feb 13, 2018
We appreciate your honesty in a forum like this. However, the chemical signals that occur during cocaine use are so powerful, that they are often difficult to control. We require our patients to be sober from cocaine use for many years before rhinoplasty or functional nasal surgery, as the consequences of mixing cocaine use with rhinoplasty surgery can be permanent disfigurement. I would strongly suggest that you postpone your surgery and…
It’s time to get rid of the bags, permanently what do you suggest?
Wonderful solutions exist for rejuvenation
Feb 5, 2018
Good day. Nonsurgical rejuvenation including fillers, skincare, and Botox are quite effective. However, if you’re looking for a more permanent and substantial solution, then they transposition lower blepharoplasty along with fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing to your upper and lower eyelids with fat transfer can be a very elegant and natural-appearing procedure. This procedure is quite different from the old school upper and lower blepharoplasty with tissue removal. I would…
