Loose skin on the upper eyelids in the corners that causes creases: how can I fix this without Botox or
Eyelid “creases”
Sep 6, 2017
Thanks for reaching out, great question! It appears that you would be a good candidate for a VERY CONSERVATIVE upper lid blepharoplasty to reduce the fold or excess skin on your upper lid. The good news is that this is a 20 minute in-office procedure with relatively little down time! I recommend getting evaluated by an eyelid trained plastic surgeon to hear more about this. Hope that helps!
U/L bleph dryness: what can I do to relieve the dryness?
Dryness after a blepharoplasty
Sep 6, 2017
Many patients suffer from dry eye at baseline, and certainly having eyelid surgery to open the eyes more and expose more eye surface to the air makes the symptoms of dry eye worse. First and most importantly, I’d make sure that your eyes can close completely, even on gentle closure. You can do this by either ensuring that your eyes are completely closed during sleep, or asking your eyelid specialist to assess this. If you can close all the way, then getting started on a lubricating regimen…
Round eyes after lower bleph – is this permanent?
Rounded Eyes after Blepharoplasty
Sep 6, 2017
Thanks for reaching out. I would venture to guess that you had an external lower lid blepharoplasty with skin and orbicularis muscle excision? If this is the case, a slight retraction of the lower eyelids can occur if a bit too much skin is excised. I would recommend discussing your concern with a trained eyelid plastic surgeon as sometimes this can be corrected with a lid re-positioning procedure or perhaps a small graft. Hope this helps!
Uneven eyelids after upper blepharoplasty – 3 months post-op.
Blepharoplasty Assymetry
Sep 6, 2017
Thanks for reaching out, great question! While swelling does play a role, I’d recommend reassessing for yourself if you feel the asymmetry is coming from the upper or the lower eyelids. Because your left lower eyelid is lower than your right, it may be giving the illusion of “asymmetric eyes” in general, when really this has not too much to do with your upper eyelid. Your eyelid plastic surgeon can help you in making this determination! Hope this helps!
Am I ready for an upper blepharoplasty? Am I a good candidate before they sag more?
Ready for Blepharoplasty
Sep 6, 2017
Thanks for reaching out, great question! It looks as if you do in fact have redundant upper eyelid skin, in some photos actually appearing to touch the lashes. Because the amount of skin removed is very controlled by the surgeon, you are essentially “ready” for one as soon as the appearance of the eyelids bother you. I would recommend going to an eyelid trained plastic surgeon and having a discussion about a natural result. It appears that at least 10 mm of skin could be removed from…
Could opening eyes too hard cause ptosis surgery to fail?
Ptosis Correction Alteration
Sep 6, 2017
Thanks for reaching out, great question! It is not typical for forceful opening to affect your ptosis repair. In fact, more than one month after surgery, very few things other than very vigorous rubbing or facial trauma can cause these sutures to slip! However, if you have any concern at all, definitely return to your plastic surgeon for an evaluation! Hope that helps!
Can under eye asymmetry be corrected? I have wonky eye bags when smiling
Asymmetric Smile
Sep 5, 2017
Thanks for this question! While I understand your concern with this dynamic asymmetry, I do want to reassure you that some bunching under the eyes with smiling is normal and actually somewhat natural appearing. This is caused by contraction of the muscle that lies just under the skin of the eyelid called the orbicularis. If the amount of bunching is bothersome to you, you can elect to put a small amount of filler, for this area I’d recommend Restylane or Vollure, into the area that…
What is the cause of my under eye dark pigmentation as well as the hollowness that follows underneath?
Cause of Dark Circles
Sep 5, 2017
Great question, it’s important to understand the reasoning behind dark circles in order to understand their treatment. Dark circles are most often produced by a contour abnormality affecting the way light reflects off the face—in short, shadows cause your circles. The phenomenon of hill-valley-hill (or elevation-depression-elevation) often produces an area under the eyes that appears to be dark. For this reason, both filling the valley (with filler or fat) AND leveling the hill…
I have hollowness under my eyes, is there a permanent solution?
Permanent UnderEye Options
Sep 5, 2017
Thanks for this question! The best option for a long lasting or even permanent treatment of undereye hollow is transconjunctival blepharoplasty with fat repositioning or autologous fat injection. This can be best assessed in person during a dynamic consultation. While I understand the frustration with repeated treatments, I’ve gotten up to 2 years of a great result with Restylane filler in the tear troughs without the need for surgery. Because this area can be tricky…
What procedure should I use to help my deep under eye lines?
Stepwise Care for Undereye Fine Lines
Sep 5, 2017
Thanks for reaching out, and for asking a great question that’s relevant to many people. Because you are young and likely have good elasticity to your skin, I recommend starting easy and trying SkinMedica’s HA5 Hydrator concentrating it around your eye area. This Hyaluronic Acid filled topical agent penetrates pours and stimulates collagen–which is exactly what you may need to get rid of those lines. If after 2 months of using this product (in addition to protecting this area with a good…
What can be done for my eyes? They are always tired and fatigued.
Tired Eyes
Jun 28, 2017
Without an in person dynamic consultation (or at least a photograph both in primary and upgaze), it is too difficult to determine the right course of action here. If there is true fat protruding in the lower lids, you may be a great candidate for a lower lid blepharoplasty. If there is merely a contour irregularity or a dark circle, you may be better suited for dermal filler. I recommend seeing a board certified Oculoplastic Surgeon to help you decide!
How can I get rid of spots and dark circles under my eyes? Or the puffiness of my lower eyelid? (photos
Dark circles
Jun 28, 2017
Hi there, and thank you for the question! Usually darkness under the eyes is caused by shadowing due to a contour irregularity. The best way to address this is usually a dermal filler called Restylane injected directly into the hollow or slightly darker region. The trick here is to make sure it is injected at the right depth–superficial injections lead to a lumpy bumpy appearance. I recommend seeing a board certified oculoplastic surgeon to get the best injection results!
What’s the best solution for hereditary under eye bags?
Eye bags
Jun 28, 2017
Hi there, thank you for your question. Usually hereditary eye bags are a “true” bag, in which orbital fat prolapses forward. The test to check if this is the case is to snap a selfie when you are looking up to the ceiling, and checking if the fat bag becomes much more prominent. If this is the case, a lower lid blepharoplasty with fat removal would likely be your best bet. However, if you find no major change, you may be able to get away with Restylane filler in the tear trough…
Will Botox fix my uneven eyelid and brow?
Botox to fix asymmetry
Jun 28, 2017
Hi there, thanks for your question! You actually have a bit of a tricky situation because while your right brow is lower than your left, your right eyelid fissure is larger than your right. Thus raising the right brow or lowering the left brow will make this disparity in your eye size more apparent. I recommend going to a board certified oculoplastic surgeon to have Botox strategically placed to not accentuate your eyelid asymmetry.
Under eye wrinkles getting worse. Will Botox or fillers help?
Botox for under eye wrinkles
Jun 28, 2017
Great question! Botox can definitely help your crow’s feet, or wrinkles that extend to the lateral portion of your lower eyelid, however should not be injected directly inferior to the eye or closer to the nose in the lower lid. A skilled injector will do a combination of light botox on the lateral lower lid and light Restylane filler in the tear trough to address your problem! Hope that helps 🙂
