Does it look like I have a misaligned jaw or anything related to teeth?
Asymmetry
Nov 4, 2017
Yes there does appear to be some component of asymmetry to either your chin or jaw. Without an examination of your bite it’s hard to tell which: however, with your TMJ issues, it could more likely be the jaw or mandible in this case. Asymmetric growth for no reason is not that uncommon. Trauma to the jaw in the past can also affect growth and development. Careful examination by a board certified maxillofacial surgeon who regularly performs orthognathic or corrective jaw surgery is n…
What can be done to improve my jaw asymmetry?
Asymmetry after fracture
Mar 9, 2017
You are still very early post injury. Based on the photos, you also had a left angle fracture. The left angle appears to still be a bit swollen possibly from the injury itself. This may just take time. I wouldn’t be to hasty to do anything just yet. Give this at least 6-8 months to heal before you make any decisions. Heat, massage, and physical therapy can do wonders for these things. Give it a try. You need to discuss your concerns with your surgeon who can best advise you of what your…
Does a BSSO to correct jaw lower jaw asymmetry effect the shape/position of the rear par
Asymmetry treatment
Mar 9, 2017
BSSO surgery affects the posterior mandibular body not the angles as VRO can. As long as the surgery is performed correctly, your angles should be unchanged. Your chin position and dental asymmetry as well as any overjet/reverse overjet should be corrected. These are important questions to discuss with your surgeon. Make sure you are being treated by a board certified maxillofacial surgeon who has a lot of experience and training in orthognathic surgery. Best of luck!
Do I need surgery? I have an 8mm overjet.
8mm overjet
Mar 9, 2017
An 8mm overjet is significant. Most often this cannot be corrected with braces alone. Combination treatment with orthodontics and surgery is the most common way to treat this issue. Discuss this with your orthodontist and a board certified maxillofacial surgeon who frequently performs orthognathic surgery before you make any decisions. Best of luck!
Any options to make my chin not stick out from my profile view when smiling?
Protruding chin
Mar 9, 2017
Ask your orthodontist if you are a class III malocclusion. Many times a protruding chin is the result of mandibular excess. If so, an osteotomy to reduce the mandible is indicated. If that’s not the case, a chin reduction would be the procedure of choice. If you are interested, make sure you discuss these issues with your orthodontist as well as a board certified maxillofacial surgeon. Best of luck!
Cosmetic Jaw surgery – Plastic surgeon or Maxillofacial?
Cosmetic jaw surgery–Plastic or Maxillofacial
Aug 19, 2016
It’s not as important which type of surgeon you choose as the experience of that surgeon at doing the procedure that you need. There are many plastic surgeons and maxillofacial surgeons that perform orthognathic surgery. There are also many who do not. It is critically important that you ascertain just how much experience you were surgeon has. Ask to see previous case examples and speak to a patient of his or hers that has undergone the procedure. It is also…
Cheek implants – before or after orthognathic surgery?
Cheek implants in combination with orthognathic surgery
Aug 19, 2016
In your case, there are several factors to consider. I do not think that it is a contraindication to perform malar augmentation in combination with lower jaw surgery. You must consider that anesthesia time is increased and as in any implant surgery, contamination is a big consideration. For this reason, I like to use freeze dried cartilage instead of a man-made material for the implant such as silicone or PTFE. You may also be a candidate for a zygomatic osteotomy.Discuss these…
