At the time of the procedure, the skin is pulled to an appropriate tension. Immediately after surgery (first week) , things are at their tightest due to the swelling. As the swelling resolves (1-4 weeks), the tension will decrease, and the skin will start to relax (1-6 months). My advice is to go back to have the sutures trimmed/removed. This way you wont have to worry how they are to be cut, and you can make sure that the stitches that are exposed are not something more important.
